Desktop scanners can be hijacked to perpetrate cyberattacks
The researchers conducted several demonstrations to transmit a message into computers connected to a flatbed scanner. Using direct laser light sources up to a half-mile (900 meters) away, as well as on a drone outside their office building, the researchers successfully sent a message to trigger malware through the scanner. It sounds to me like whatever device your talking about, if it touches the web or touches something that touches the web it can be hacked. It seems it may even be able to be hacked if it could touch the web but isn't, like someone can reach in and tap into it.
