BadByrd Introduction - Page 2

I have been working on developing his responses to each party member, thats why I went through the game and read each characters post. Now that I got at least a general idea of who each character is I can work on how Banahll will mix with them. I think it will make for some interesting party dynamics, some conflict, some surprising cohesiveness. Lets face have you ever had fun in a game where all the characters fit together like the brady bunch? I sure haven't.

The only reason I singled out Kursten is at this stage in Banahll's development she is the only one who already respresents a strong part of his personality. I like to develop my chracters by going in with only a hand full of guidelines and flesh them out in game.

In this instance, Banahll loves everything nature, borderline hates elves, and will go to the ends of the earth to hurt anyone that wantonly destroys nature, He refuses to go into cities unless left with no other choice because he is very shy about his looks but tries to hide with an in your face attitude when his looks become an issue. I'm considering having a mask made for him to hide his face but haven't decided yet.

Those are the guidelines I have created for my character. His development will be based on those few guiding factors to his choices. And then agin some rules could change. An elf could save his life at huge sacrifice to himself which would change his veiws on elves. It's all in the air right now.

Introduction BadByrd

Don't add a mask, or at least have him take it off if asked by Lionel, I have planned my own reply, but I need Lionel to see how ugly Banahll is for it to work. Simply put Lionel will have a few second of a shocked expression, but will put it aside, and welcome him to the group.

Thomas I don't really think you can tell Badbyrd how he should play his character, he needs to do that for himself don't you think? Oh and welcome to you Badbyrd hope you're getting a feel for everything here, perhaps you do already from some of the posts I've seen you make around here.

I wasn't telling BadByrd what to do, I was making a request, I have gone thru the trouble of making a memorable greeting, and BadByrd putting a mask on Banahll would make Lionel's greeting have to change, also how would Banahll know the group will be trulying willing to except him into the group unless he sees the group can except him, ugly face and all? Just a thought.

Introduction BadByrd

It does look to me to be more a matter of coordination of character stories to develop and maintain continuity, but I'm not involved in the matter either way, just adding my opinion - everyone is of course free to characterize their character as they want, like always, and I don't imagine anyone is trying to infringe upon that, but I can see how it might have been interpreted that way.

So BadByrd, how did you come up with this concept, just from the scores and such from character creation? I've met people who, and have switched between, myself, use a variety of development methods, from on-the-fly, to a brief (or even long) character writeup and history, to yoinking well-known characters or archetypes from history, movies or TV shows (these are my tendencies). I also know people who create the same character(s) over and over again, from one system to the next, from one game in one location and group, to another, one forum to another, and have done that myself a number of times - do you do that?

Usually to create my character back story I jsut roll my stats first, then work from there to build on those stats. In this case it was the charisma stat that was low and a high intel. I sat and thought about it for a few minutes to create a story that would explain all my stats. Then I jus ttry to stay true to that story. Easiest way I have found anyway.

BadByrd what are you doing, surely something can be worked out, why quit just because the game it not turning out as you expected? Can't we not play somewhere in the middle, also your Tarrasque example you gave for creative play is a bit much it says on wiki that the tarrasque is highly destructive, that it has may combat methods, (it's tail, claws, spikes and horns are all weapons), it can stomp you flat, it can grab you and then eat you, and or slam you with its 130-ton body. It is said to inspire terror, and such is its armour that in addition to giving the Tarrasque excellent melee protection, can deflect all manner of offensive spells. Tarrasque also have horrific regeneration ability that makes it extremely difficult to kill, and that you 'must' use a wish or miracle spell when and 'if' you can get it to 0 hp or it 'will' come back, (this is said plainly in the Monster Manual itself).

It is said and I quote
international QUOTE
The only monsters that are more feared in combat are deities, the largest and oldest dragons, certain powerful outsiders (such as demon lords) and epic monsters.

To put it simple your DM was "very" generous to let you kill it as a Level 3 ranger, even if your ranger did have an excellent dexterity. Question how much experience did you gain, at least 6 levels worth I would think.

Also its not fear of the ventriloquism spell itself as the spell's rules, (at least for me that is why it is hard to swallow", that a ventriloquism spell shouldn't be able to work that way, at least not without a high cost.

Also your
international QUOTE
I am afraid that with my style of play I will cause more problems for this party then I will solve.

Well that is not true, all I ask is why can't your style of play be worked with and lowered a bit. You have good ideas, but some of them could be called game breakers if you know what I mean, like the Tarrasque win, that the monster is meant to be a challange for the greatest of heroes, so for a level 3 ranger to kill it so easily is game breaking, or be able to shot in its mouth at only level 3 he would have to be 'very' skilled bowman, Tarrasque are gigantic creatures, a ranger could only reach one of the Tarrasque toes at the most.
