Judge rules 14 years old girl may sue 'Mau

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 14-year-old girl who says she was raped after an appearance on Maury Povich's television talk show can go ahead with a $25 million lawsuit against the show and its host, a Manhattan judge ruled.

State Supreme Court Justice Diane Lebedeff said the girl, who alleged that a man claiming to be the show's limousine driver raped her, had a valid claim. The judge found the girl was still under the show's travel arrangements when the alleged attack occurred.....

That is quite ashame and I am sure a very traumatic experience for her because of all the fan fare that took place being on television. You do not mention the age but if she was young then where was her parents?

She's 14 years old according to the article I posted. She was one of those 'wild' teenagers that they bring in Maury's Show for boot camp and stuff.

You know what ticks me off about all these rape cases? There is almost no way to know if they are true. Any girl could go to court and say "so and so" raped me and get away with it. So many people abuse the system and get free money for saying they were raped when they accually aren't.

I can almost understand your point, but there are ways of proving whether or not the act has taken place. But before I go further on this, I will say that many women do not even report it to local police. The tests do prove most of the time that there has been that act to occur or not.

Now as for my comment about this, I do wonder where the girl's parents were. I mean, they do appear on the show with the child, so where were they? I find it sad really that Maury could have had a bit more measures taken for security. But it's not really Maury's fault as it is his producers of the show. Am I right about that? I mean, I thought that the producers were supposed to take care of those kinds of details such as security, transportation and things along that line.

I agree that Mr. Povich should not have been personally included in the suit. It was the sole responsibility of the producers to perform criminal background checks on its' staff, especially where minors are concerned. Also, since the girl's parent(s) weren't in attendance, there should have been a suitable chaperone. I've met Mr. Povich and appeared on his Panorama talk show back in '84 before he was syndicated. He would never have condoned this type of action from an employee, period.

This is the important issue. If it is neglence or misbehavior by one of his employees he is responsible legally for their actions. Not criminally, but civilly. So, that will be what in the end determines Maury Povich's responsibility, if any.
