I think both Maggie and Jake Gyllenthal are great. Both of the last films I saw them in were fantastic (The Secretary / Brokeback Mountain).
Interestingly both of them examined a similar theme as far as I could see - the idea that what constitutes love is broader than our common social definition.
In The Secretary, Maggie Gyllenthal plays an introverted, shy and unconfident young woman who is given a new lease of life through her involvement with her Lawyer boss (James Spader) who she develops a relationship with. The fact that this is a submissive/dominant S&M relationship not only bothers the pairs' family and friends but Spader himself (the dominant of the pair) who can't shake the feeling that he is somehow being abusive. It finally comes down to the previously insecure Gyllenthal to assert her right to be treated how she likes and to show Spader - and the world - that the relationship is ultmiately one based on love.
Similarly, Brokeback Mountain gives us a perhaps less controversial view (as long as your emotionally mature enough to accept the idea of gay cowboys - "Gay cowboys?! That just aint natural...") of the same theme... what's most important in a system of values - who we love or the way we love them? Unfortunately for the heterosexual women of Brokeback Mountain (especially Ledger's wife) they suffer almost as much from their community's inability to accept homosexual relationships as the gay men do.
Anyway, so that's why the Gyllenthals get my vote for this - great perofrmances and interesting, stimulating, humane stories.

I have two favorite actors, the first being Vincent D'Onofrio, he currently plays Detective Robert(Bobby) Goren in Criminal Intent, what a fantastic series! He has been in plenty of other films too, and was also in Full Metal Jacket (1987),although he looks unrecognizable in this film, as he had to put on loads of weight to play the part!
My other favorite actor is Nicolas Cage, I haven't seen a film of his yet that I haven't liked.
As for favorite actresses, I would have to say Julia Roberts, in my opinion, she hasn't put her name to anything that has been below standard, if she's in it, it's normally good!
I have to say Morgan Freeman for favorite actor. I have yet to see a movie he was in that I didn't like. He just has a certain calmness and an ability to get his point across without yelling or getting over emotional.
Favorite actress would be Australian Toni Collette (mother in "Sixth Sense" and Muirel in "Muriel's Wedding.")
I think the prettiest actress though is Charlize Theron with that megawatt smile.
