:spock: Why not purchase through the net or Ebay? |
I guess you could also wait for pay-per-view? You would see it delayed, but at least you would still see it. Another alternative is to make some kind of arrangement with a friend where they buy one movie and you both watch it and then you buy the next one, etc.
hi how can i tell if the copy of the movie is pirated or not and how to identify it
You can tell that a movie is pirated if you bought it from a place that sells pirated DVDs/VCDs.
Frankly, I'd rather rent. I usually watch a movie once or twice and then I don't watch it anymore, so I hardly buy them unless I'm sure I want to watch them over and over again.
Lots of Singaporeans go over to Malaysia to buy pirated copies, but they're usually lacking in quality... So even though they are cheap, sometimes you get people laughing in the background or glitches here and there. (Not that a lot of people mind, though). But some of them just burn straight from the original copy, and that's not too hard to buy. But still. If you get caught, that's $100 from your pockets.
Of course, there's always something called "borrow from your friends".
Pirated things aren’t necessarily of bad quality, you know. I’ve got about three or four pirated VCDs and DVDs which are actually quite good, and aren’t jerky. Of course, they were pirated, because they were bought from a pasar malam (night market) and the came out before the opening of the movie, but still…
Admittedly pirated movies are a bit of a stain on the original movie itself. For example, the mass pirating of ‘The Passion of the Christ’ springs to mind. Pirated DVDs sometimes also lack features that would have been in the original, such as interviews, but this depends on the DVD. Sometimes, the pirated copy has more than the movie, such as scenes that were originally deleted out.
Here in the US, there is now a service provided by a company called NetFlix. NetFlix allows you to rent movies online, and they send it to your home, with a postage paid sleeve, to return it. You keep up to 3 movies at home at a time for as long as you want and pay a monthly charge. Your monthly fee does not go up or down, regardless of how many movies you rented that month. This is a great solution for those who cannot see the movies on the big screen and who do not have the time to visit the local BlockBuster and wait in lines to rent movies. I have tried it but cancelled because I wasn't returning the movies soon enough to get my money's worth out of it. This is a great alternative to getting pirated movies in my opinion.
