At least 94 people have died after a boat capsized and caught fire off the island of Lampedusa, the Italian coast guard said Thursday. At least 151 people were rescued. Up to 500 people were thought to have been on board, including people from Somalia, Eritrea and Ghana, the coast guard said. The boat is believed to have launched from Libya.
Lampedusa, a tiny island near Sicily, has become a destination for tens of thousands of refugees seeking to enter Europe. Ref. CNN
