Now, it seems like Arnold is having a lot of work with this fires going on in California they seem pretty bad and I'm sure there is a lot of pressure over him about it. |
Offtopic but, We have several people in our (stake) church that lost their homes to the fires. Â It was as close as two miles from our home, but seemed to stop on the ridge below the reservoir. Â The smoke and ash were just awful. |

Actually, Arnie is not in office yet, or at least is not sworn in until later -- January? Â Gov. Davis has declared disaster areas etc. so that homeowners can claim FEMA funds to rebuild. Â And they are supposed to be working together, Arnie & Davis, during this crisis. |
Well, it looks like he's making some headway, even if he had to eventually bow to the Dems...
Governor signs bill....
Schwarzenegger Signs Calif. Fiscal Plan

"Today, I'm a happy governor," Schwarzenegger said during a signing ceremony attended by legislative leaders. "The recovery plan that I'm about to sign, I'm very happy about because both parties came together." "This is a compromise," Senate Republican Leader Jim Brulte said. "What it does is force this state to begin to live within our means. This bill is better than the current situation." ..... Senators voted 35-5 for the spending restrictions; the 27-12 vote for the bonds was just enough to get that measure on California's March ballot. .... The spending limits were applauded in some corners, but some senators called the plan a sham. .... While the spending reforms aren't as strict as some would like, they're a good first step, some finance experts said. .... Jean Ross, executive director of the California Budget Project, said the changes will help stabilize California's up-and-down economy. .... Schwarzenegger originally called for a hard spending cap that grows only with the rate of inflation and population. Democrats called that plan too restrictive, saying that starting such measures in a poor economic year would mean the state could never restore cut programs during better times. After the defeat of his original proposal last Friday, Schwarzenegger softened his demands. This week he agreed to a compromise proposal very similar to what the Democrats originally offered. .... |
The Governator, a 'Strong' Beer for California
Fri January 9, 2004 10:18 AM ET
SEATTLE (Reuters) - For Californians who can't get enough of bodybuilder turned film star turned governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a brewery in the neighboring state of Oregon is offering a new full-bodied beer labeled "The Governator."
Portland-based MacTarnahan's Brewing Co., which brews a popular regional beer of the same name, came up with the idea for the strong brew just before the holidays last year and has seen brisk demand for the ESB, or extra special bitter ale.
Called "The Governator Ale," the label features a man flexing his muscles beneath a logo of the state of California with the words "Pumpin Iron Brewing" superimposed on top.
The big surprise is that The Governator, behind its novelty packaging, is actually top-notch," MacTarnahan's chief executive Jerome Chicvara said in a statement issued when the beer went on sale. "We're hoping this is a sign of things to come in Sacramento."

In just two months as governor, Schwarzenegger has supported decisions by the state's Board of Prison Terms to set free eight apparently rehabilitated murderers who already have served lengthy sentences.
That tally matches the number that Davis allowed to be paroled in the five years he spent as governor before being recalled from office last fall.
All eyes are on Schwarzenegger's plans to solve California's massive fiscal crisis, but the choices he makes on law-and-order issues could also prove to be significant and politically defining. Schwarzenegger said little during the campaign about criminal justice and since his election has not publicly emphasized it either. His parole decisions have been made with little fanfare.

Arnold Slashes Education
State Hornet editorials
December 10, 2003
It didn't take long, just two weeks, for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to break a campaign promise. And California's students will be the ones who are left picking up the pieces.
The new governor's plan to balance the state budget includes $13.4 million in mid-year cuts to the California State University system, as well as $24 million in cuts from both University of California and CSU outreach programs.
This doesn't sound like the resolute recall candidate who told reporters in August that he would not balance the budget at the expense of education.
"We must immediately attack the operating deficit head-on," he said during an August 20th press conference between campaign meetings with his economic advisers.
"Does this mean that we are going to make cuts? Yes. Does this mean education is on the table? No."

The state Department of Motor Vehicles on Tuesday gave permission for more than 117,000 refunds to be sent Friday, two and a half months after Schwarzenegger repealed an increase of the tax on his first day as governor.
The first round of refunds will amount to $15.8 million, DMV officials said, and about $600 million is expected to be paid by the time the final check is sent in March.
Refunds will average $135 each, officials said, with each check's amount depending on the vehicle's value.

Arnie has an impossible task. The damage has already been done. Gray Davis and his liberal cronies have brought the State of [arnie accent]Kah-lee-fon-yah[/arnie accent] to it's knees with their blank check policies which have led to the enormous budget defecit
and regarding those fires in SoCal that FarSeer mentioned. I lay the blame for that debacle firmly at the feet of the radical environmentalists
the environmentalists took over Kahleefonyah with their wacko ideas to protect species like the Kangaroo rat. They managed to get enough strength to force Davis and his cronies in Sacramento to come up with BS legislation like not letting homeowners clear brush around their property because it might upset the invaluable to nature Kangaroo rat
the liberaltards were also against the cutting down of trees for fire-paths, again. moaning about wildlife and conservation blah. If they had allowed for fire-paths to be built, when a section caught fire, the farthest it would be able to burn would be to the nearest fireline
because of their mindless fanatism, the envirotards helped to create one of the largest natural disasters in our history. Had they had not meddled and let people clear their land, many hundreds of homes would have been saved, and i dare say that the Kangaroo rat would have still managed to survive. Because homeowners in Cali have almost zero rights to their land, the damn place almost burnt to the ground
even before the fires had been put out, the envirotards were scrambling for cover because they knew, people like me were gonna put their asses on the hot seat
now i'm all for nature conservation blah, but there has to be a balance between our needs and theirs. That's a concept that those wacko hippie environmentalists cannot comprehend
end of rant
oh, as for Arnies acting ability blah, he sux
- Car Key Boi,
hippie heart, conservative head, just like Arnie
