INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - "The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a new lease with the city that will keep the team in Indianapolis -- and a new stadium -- for at least the next 30 years." |
The colts are a great team right now, they had to strike while the iron was hot and get the good contract to keep them in town. Its also the perfect leverage for a new stadium. They probably haven't thought about the fact that peyton wont be around for thirty years, but good for them for getting a new stadium while they can.
I go to school in Indiana and reading the letters to the the editor in the papers, the general public didn't seem to happy about it. I think the fact is, however, that it is what the city had to do to keep their team, Cleveland lost there team in 1995 to baltimore, and one of the main reasons was that the city did not have the money to build a new stadium. Although the idea of any new tax appals me, I can understand why a new stadium had to be built. Thirty years is a long time for a guarantee to stay and the football fans in Indy should be glad that they don't have to go through what Cleveland, or any other city, had to go through without the hometown team they loved.
After such a promising season, I felt really bad for the Colts not having made it to the SuperBowl. Their inability to at least reach the SuperBowl was a huge failure with the type of season they had. It just goes to show that the playoffs are all about 1 game and nothing about one's achievement during the regular season.
After their drive for the undefeated season ended, it seemed that they lost their drive. They played like they were just coasting to the playoffs the rest of the season and played horribly. When they got to the playoffs, they didn't have the drive, or so it seemed, to step up their play again. However, I see this as a coaching effort. Remember, their coach had issues taking a good Tampa Bay team to the SuperBowl as well.
Did anyone see that K Mike Vanderjagt is now a free agent? Along with Edgerrin James, it would seem the Colts are at the end of their run at a SuperBowl. Do you think they can rebound from losing 2 key players such as these?
Well, after their defense really manned up and stomped my beloved Chiefs running game, I am in their corner to win the whole thing now. If they can stop the run like the stopped Larry Johnson, then they have a great chance to run the board. Peyton needs to put his playoff mishap past behind him and take it to the house this year.
