IRS to register tax preparers

With as many as 1.4 million paid tax preparers across the country, the Internal Revenue Service on Monday announced steps it will take to assure they're competent, up-to-date and accountable. The plans, which will phase in over the next year, include not only new rules, but surprise visits, IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman said in a teleconference with reporters. Ref. Source 1
