An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 struck off the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, the U.S. Geological Survey said. A tsunami warning was issued for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati, and Wallis and Futuna, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. A tsunami generated by a powerful undersea earthquake off the Solomon Islands has damaged dozens of homes in that South Pacific island chain. However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that tsunami warnings issued earlier for elsewhere have been cancelled. Ref. USAToday
That is a big one and they are happening all over the earth but why? In this case 7.7 or 7.8 is really a bad one and will cause Tsunamis like never before. This is one to watch for coastal damage.
