Survivor: Amazon Winner

Survivor has been a hit in many places of the world. Do you think it is 'productive' television? By productive I mean is it just making you waste time or is there something to be learnt from watching people starve and rat on each other?

From USA Today:

Jenna is last one standing
--------------------------------------------------

Jenna Morasca outlasted 15 other contestants to take the $1 million
prize on CBS' Survivor: The Amazon. The 21-year-old swimsuit model from
Pittsburgh overcame sickness and cattiness. Jenna was joined in the
final two by Matthew Von Ertfelda, 33, a restaurant designer in
Washington, D.C. The two finalists praised the strategic skills of Rob
Cesternino, 24, who was this edition's puppetmaster, but he finished
third.

It being productive is relevant to those who make money or gain personal satisfaction from participating whereas the viewer may be the loser.

I have to say, I thought i would like survivor, but I thought it was just plain stupid. You can't learn much of anything about survival, or the wide wide world. The thing easiest to learn from it is how to cheat on your friends and outsmart your teammates. No offense to anyone who is a Survivor fan, but i find the idea quite stupid. I've heard some people call it "real tv", but i have to disagree. There isn't anything 'real' about it. A former swimsuit model most likely wouldn't go off into the middle of no where and try to see if she can survive. I'm generalizing, so if i am mistaken on that point, I'm sorry.

If anyone is looking for another show some what like survivor, 'Eco-challenge' is a good one. Its an adventure race in which teams race to see who can go across so many miles of rugged terrain. There really is no censoring at all, you see everything from when the team members get sick to when they fall down a cliff and dislocate their shoulder and the doctors have to fix it. Not trying to change anybody's mind about survivor, just promoting a good show (almost like a documentary) cool.gif
