New free online games site

(Permission obtained from Admin for this post)

Hi all -

We just recently launched [..], a new games and chat website that offers the best Bingo, Solitaires and more than 40 other games, along with the best realtime chat of any of the major game sites.

The entire site is free.

If there's enough interest, we'll also be glad to set up one or more game rooms for members from this group. If you try the site and you like the idea, you can use the "Contact us" Form on the site to request the room. If enough people ask, we'll be glad to oblige.

Hi Jon, I went to your website and sign up to play some games. Some of them seems not working. Also I wanted to ask you for how long will be the testing of the site? (I mean, when we will be able to get cash prizes).

Hi LDS -

Thanks for the note. I was surprised to hear that you had a problem with any of the games, but I would be very interested in hearing about what didn't work properly. We do our best to fix and and all problems as quickly as possible.

We will start "real" prizes most likely later this month. We had been delaying until now for a few reasons:
- we had to make sure that cheaters couldn't ruin the
  experience for legitimate players
- we had to be sure that there were no errors in the
  awards process
- we have to be in a position to be *earning* some
money before we give money away!

We have pretty much achieved those milestones, and it looks like we'll be starting (gradually) with real prizes later this month. Stay tuned!

Back to the games problems: if you let me know, or if you use the "Conact Us" form on the Ion Thunder website, we will do our best to address your comment ASAP.

Regards,
Jon

ps: Happy New Year!

Thanks Jon, I tried to play the game called  Fruit Loot     and it didn't work for me, I don't know if it's my connection or what but it also took really long to load.
Also since I already played in other web sites like the one you have, is true that people can really make money?. I mean, all of them say the same thing smile.gif but how they can afford giving away all that money if anybody can go there and play for free?. smile.gif Is that real money?

Ah, Fruit Loot! That's one of the older games (from our first couple of months doing this) that are in the queue awaiting a face-lift. It works for most users, but it's about the most primitive game on the site.

The really good games right now are:
- Badda Bingo
- Suits Me Solitaire (which is really Klondike)
- Suits Me FreeCell
- Blocko
- Joker Poker
- Golden Dice Poker

The rest are OK, but will be seeing major rewrites over the next few months, at which point they should be up to the same level of quality as the games mentioned above.

Re: prizes - free sites like Ion Thunder depend totally on advertising revenue for income. Some of the sites, such as Pogo and Uproar, are owned by multi-billion dollar parent companies (Electronic Arts and Vivendi respectively for Pogo and Uproar), and they are not *required* to be profitable if the parent company is getting something else of value out of the operation, such as publicity, a growing marketing database, etc.

In our case, we do *not* have a big parent company. Ion Thunder was created to be a stand-alone enterprise, and we hope to be self-supporting very soon. In order to accomplish this, we'll need to generate income from advertising. Since the Internet "contraction" over the past couple of years, online advertising rates have dropped dramatically, so it will take a very large audience for us to make a reasonable income.

But -- when we get past that critical size (perhaps averaging 7,000 people or 8,000 people logged on and playing games concurrently around the clock), we will be profitable and the growth PAST that point will continue to be even more profitable. The basic reason for this is that once we pass that point, the cost to acquire and support additional audience will be lower than the income derived from the ads that these new players view.

Even before we are profitable, we will start to give out prizes, although the number of prizes and amounts will be small to start. We don't want to bankrupt ourselves before we have a chance at success!

We expect to start with "real" prizes later this month, and they will include a mix of cash and prizes (such as "Ion Thunderwear" - t-shirts & the like). What's interesting is that if you compare the relative audience size of Ion Thunder and the giants like Pogo, it's clear that we could give our users a better chance of winning cash than they have at Pogo even if we only gave away something like $3,000 a year! But we'll giving away significantly more than that, so I expect that our users will actually have a far better chance of winning a real prize at our site than they do at sites like Pogo that already have millions of players in their database.

Regards,
Jon

Cool, thanks for all the info!. I will be going tonight to play again in your site, hopefully I will get some money pretty soon wink.gif. By the way, is not a requirement that you have to be in the USA to get the prizes right?. I'm from Argentina but I live in Trinidad at the present.

At the moment, being in the US is a requirement for prize awards. As we catch up with the backlog on our "to do list", we will be working with our attorneys to figure out precisely what we have to do so that we can award prizes out of the country. It feels like an arbitrary restriction at the moment, but I'm confident that we'll get past it in some way.

Cool. I think that's the great different with games online. Some are only for legal residents in the USA or Canada. But you know, there are TONS of people out there who are not in the USA who would love to participate! smile.gif
Hopefully, you will  be able to get that change soon wink.gif
I wish you all the best in your site! smile.gif
