What is your strategy for confronting the fantasy creature Devil in Dungeons & Dragons?

Hellcat (Bezekira)

Fighting any kind of devil in D&D is a difficult task. If you have a party with a high level cleric then it is a sure plus but not necessarily a sure win.

I looked this up. JB has a list of the D&D monsters online, Source 6 here is some of what it says about "devil":
QUOTE Many devils are surrounded by a fear aura, which they use to break up powerful groups and defeat opponents piecemeal. Devils with spell-like abilities use their illusion abilities to delude and confuse foes as much as possible. A favorite trick is to create illusory reinforcements; enemies can never be entirely sure if a threat is only a figment or real summoned devils joining the fray.

If you are smart and prepared its really not that hard. For a starter they are not from the material plane and quite easily banished otherwise make sure you are prepared to over come the damage reductions and resistances then as always hack slash and heal.
The abilities and ECL of each vary greatly so its quite a bad and open question personally.
Specific tactics should be used on specific devils.
