What is your strategy for confronting the fantasy creature Gnome in Dungeons & Dragons?

I would immediately disbelieve anything in the enviroment that seemed out of place. Attack with a ranged weapon if possible so I don't walk into any traps. Also try and taunt the gnome into melee battle with insults such as: "Your entire race is cowardly."
