I like a lot of Japanese music.... Such as the theme from Inuyasha, A song for XX, and various others from Final Fantasy. I can't understand the lyrics but it is not the lyrics that necessarily make a song what it is. I love the rhythm and expressive emotion it portrays.
Yes, I like songs from many different languages.
The ones I like the most are:
In my teenage rebel days I listened to a rock/metal band called Rammstein. They are from Germany and I didn't understand any of the lyrics, but I sure enjoyed the music. I guess I liked it because it sounded angry, mostly because the German language can be very rough and harsh sounding.
Offtopic but, Icarus, you may want to check this thread for some information on classical music. |
I listen to Rammstein now, and even though I may not understand what they say, I think that the music is what portrays the message, not the lyrics. Lyrics act as a guide, in my opinion. Their german language is rough, harsh sounding, and goes well with their style of music. However, they're not all heavy metal songs, some of them are very passionate, meaningful songs. In fact, Rammstein's first album is almost all about love.

The notes are great, and you can somehow get a sense of what they are saying even though I don't know the language. |
Rammstein sounds great in german but once you translate it most of their lyrics are pretty awful but as has been said the german language is just great for heavier music because it just sounds so harsh! I've got a skit on an album by a band called tool which sounds like a Hitler speech it's really oppressive and disturbing untill you translate it and realise it's a cookie recipie! another really good foriegn metal band is sepultura they are from Brazil and sing in portuguese I know most of their lyrics are political but apart from that I haven't got a clue but it sounds great because again portuguese is a very harsh gutteral language that works really well with their tribal metal sound!
