Comments: Its all well and good to keep a food storage but how much good is it if in a crisis situation you can't access it or become a target because of it? Apocalyptic situations like natural disasters, maybe an earthquake that buries your food. What about a mob breaking into your home. How do we survive that?

I would say that the first, and foremost, aspect of food storage, at least 1 year's worth, is obedience. If you do everything possible to be prepared, most likely you will be able to use that food, and if you can't, the Lord will most likely provide.

While your scenarios are certainly possible, they are not highly probable. Even after an earthquake, you could probably get to your supplies after a few days of hard work. (Hopefully you have your 72-hour kit to get you through those few days.)

While the Church does not support the idea, most people who are serious about being prepared include weapons to protect their families and resources.

Personally, I want very much to have a little piece of land, with a small cabin, a little ways from "civilization" where we can retreat. I don't know if I will ever be able to get there, but I would like to.

However, whether that ever happens or not, after an apocalyptic event, it is quite likely that communities of like-minded people will form for mutual support and protection. This is not to say that those who have prepared will provide for lots of people who couldn't be bothered. But those who have prepared will most likely be much calmer and able to think things through than those who are not prepared.

We know exactly what will happen in the last days I believe we should be armed and store our food in some sort of place (probably underground) where we will not become an easy target. Since going through my divorce settlement I'm expecting to make a purchase on a farm property with so much land that I will be giving seriously thought to this.

I have always felt that in a time of crisis we should help our neighbors, if my food resources run out before the crisis is over because I helped others survive so be it. I hope that my charity and faith in the Lord will help me find a way to survive. The Lord fed 5000 with just a few loaves of bread. Hopefully when these trials come I will be spiritually prepared as well and will seek the Lord's guidance and blessings so that I can help others and not turn them away.

DesertAndy all those are nice words but when reality hits you bro that's another story you know what am I saying? When your toddler screams in hunger or you have no milk for your newborn let's see if you will still think that you would share the last food you have with your neighbors instead of giving it to your kids.

Well, I am hopeful that the reason the church has pushed the 2 year supply for food storage is that we have a 6 month crisis and by having a 2 year supply we can help the many that are not as prepared as we should be.

I have a very hard time picturing myself pointing a weapon at someone because they want my food. I'm not a pacifist, I spent 10 years in the military, and I have been known to go hunting on occasion.

We have a few guns at my house, and I do have a small stockpile of ammo. But I would only use these to kill a rabbit or pheasant for the stew pot.

As many other Christian churches say "What would Jesus do?" I can't see our Lord refusing to give someone food or sticking a gun in their face then telling them to leave.

Two year food storage? Where did you read that? It's actually all the opposite. The Church says now that we're encouraged to keep a year supply but we can also do three months or six months supply (you can see the provident living site) so basically nobody has an excuse to not do it you know what am I saying? No where the church says we need to have two years worth, I think you're confusing the issue with something else.

Like I said, I understand all your thoughts and feelings you know what am I saying? but you didn't address my earlier post which states that basically it's all easy to say that NOW but if you have KIDS, and young ones and they're screaming and crying for food, would you still think that you need to share of your last food with your neighbors knowing your kids may go hungry? Oh come on, common sense here. The truth is, ANY HUMAN and CARING parent will make sure that their kids get that food, NO MATTER WHAT!

The church used to tell us to have a 2 year supply. I guess I am old school, because I still think like we did in the 70's when it was a 2 year supply.

By the way, I do have four children, and yes I would take care of them first.

What I am trying to say is that during a time of crisis; we may be tested in more than physical ways. There will be a spiritual high road and a not so spiritual low road, which road will we take? Which road or path will show a more Christ-like behavior? Will I have the faith to give the shirt off my back to someone in need? Knowing that the Lord will provide for me later? Or will I keep my shirt because I feel that I need it more? Will I be a good Samaritan or will I just walk on by? Will I skip a meal or two, and feed the hungry? I can skip a few meals.

I believe that how we act in times of great stress shows our true character. And we need to be prepared to face difficult decisions with a heart that will allow for the Spirit to act upon us. I believe that if I will be generous with my worldly possessions in times of need rather than clinging to them. That as I need items in the future; the Lord will provide a way for me to have what I need. Some might call this blind faith but it works for me.

Selfishness never is Christ-like behavior.
