Kidnappings in Trinidad A big report by the BBC. Do you think the recent documentary by the BBC about the crime rate and kidnappings in Trinidad was overdone or accurate? Are we becoming like Colombia? Does the government acknowledge that there is a serious problem?

Recently there has been a drive by the PNM to encourage the population to support a few bills that is supposed to 'help the crime situation', but really, I doubt it will do anything. The UNC keeps saying there needs to be constitutional reform first so that if another upset of elections happens they will heave a better chance wink.gif What do you think about all of this?

In listening to this on the TV more there is one thing lacking which T&T seems to be blind folded to: What is the Police Reform Bills?. They keep telling us to support it (the PNM that is), but they never give DETAILS as to what it is really!

It is very disturbing to see that the rate of kidnappings has increased, yet I do not hear, see or read about anything physically done. I have been keeping up with the updates, and my burning question is.... Is someone on the inside the ring leader? Because why is the government not doing anything?

Basically everything in Trinidad is done based on the 'Does it touch me?' principle. Ever heard of that principle? It is one in which unless you are directly affected by something it is not important. So only if members of the government were kidnapped or the families then it will be truly serious. Other than that we have archaic laws and ways of dealing with crime. Forensic workers here are a joke - I have seen them in action. All in all we need someone to come in and stop the talk (that guy from the show 'The District' would be ideal) - we need someone to revolutionize the way things are done so people can become serious and stop looking for the easy way out as they are accustomed. Just think, with all the crime going on the police are looking to protest for higher pay wages :rolleyes.gif:

To be honest with you, I think there are a couple of organized crime groups doing all these kidnappings and the police because of their lack of training, cannot do much about it (but yeah...they just got a raise in their salaries rolleyes.gif )

Our country is too small, for such successfully orcastrated kidnappings. I always believed elements of the police force has had hands in kidnappings but i could be wrong...

It seems like the police in Trinidad lately is moving pretty quick and efficient, they have saved several people from the hands of their captors. It is becoming so crazy that they entered the house of a family, they robe them and they kidnapped their 3 years old boy! Can you imagine the desesperation of that family! Oh my gosh...the child was returned safe thank goodness and the kidnappers were arrested (they were 2 guys on their early 20's) *shaking head*
