Malexander, that is probably the soldiers that were caught to be all involved in a kidnapping ring. Now we know why they were so effective at it: they had the training, new all the secret areas of Trinidad and of course the weapons to boot. The interesting thing about it is this: when they were going to court they could be seen with smiles on their faces. Since their arrest there has been hardly any kidnappings.
Threads like this scare the living crap out of me. I am here in America working and my fiance' is in Trinidad living and working. Her family is pretty well known. Their last name appears on several large buildings throughout Port of Spain. I try not to think about it very much or I'd go crazy. But then I find myself reading a thread like this and I can't help but freak out a little. She would be considered one of the prime targets for kidnapping. That is my biggest fear in the world right now. Our goal is to be married next year, and within a year of that, relocate to Barbados or some other less kidnapping-friendly island.
Kidnappings have dropped significantly, but they still do occur, and having one person kidnapped in a year is TOO much, but not according to our government, in fact I believe it was someone in Parliament who recently downplayed the kidnapping situation by saying we ONLY had twelve for the year.
For one side I was very glad that this woman still alive after being kidnapped for two weeks, by the other side my heart reaches out to her since there are reports that she has been "injured" by her kidnappers. Only God knows what this poor woman went through...

Vindra Naipaul faced her kidnappers without fear, putting up a struggle before they beat her and knocked out her teeth. "I am not afraid of you," the 51-year-old chief executive officer of Xtra Foods Ltd told the men hiding behind masks and who shot at her SUV as she pulled into the driveway of her Lange Park, Chaguanas, home on Tuesday night, an eyewitness said. Investigators believe that Naipaul's abduction was well planned and that the kidnappers had spies who told them when she left the Grand Bazaar branch of Xtra Foods supermarket. Residents said they saw a gold-coloured Nissan Almera parked around the corner from the house but thought it was unoccupied. Investigators and eyewitnesses gave an account of what happened: Naipaul came home at 8.20 p.m. She was alone and at the wheel of a Kia Sportage SUV. She had no security escort, as many Lange Park residents do. Her remote-controlled gate slid open. Naipaul drove into her garage. The kidnappers pulled up in their car and rushed out. They fired at least five shots at Naipaul's SUV. The right rear tyre was punctured. A rear window was hit. The doors of the SUV were locked. A man smashed the window of the right rear door. She was then dragged from the vehicle. She fought and told the men she was not afraid. They beat her. Police found her bloody dentures on the driveway.// |

"She is a fantastic human being," said Nabbie. "And she's the type that always takes time out to talk with her employees. I mean 90 per cent of the staff refer to her as Mom." "She does not dwell on the negatives," he added. "I mean she is the type that would hire people who made mistakes and were undergoing rehab and she would try to put them on the right track." "As a manager," said Nabbie, "she understands that if her staff is treated well, they will treat the customers well." Nabbie also spoke in glowing terms of the community work she had done, with her most recent venture in advising the managers of the Maloney community mall how best to run their business. "If someone could do this to a person like Mrs Naipaul who has done so much for so many people, then we are really heading for an abyss in this country," he said. |
