Well it's very interesting to see all this controversy about red-day at the St. Augustine campus this week. they actually organized a massive protest, locked-down the campus, blocked all entry to anyone not associated with the protest, forced the suspension of classes AND exams and brought administration to its knees. that's pretty cool in my book. it's about time that people started to take these things seriously. it's just a pity that someone had to get attacked to provoke it.
Well, I don't know much about the situation itself but it doesn't seems right to me that they have to locked the gates of the university and force the cancelation of exams to be able to protest, I don't think it's needed...
In anycase, this is something that the UWI students do every year...obviously it's not working if they still protesting about the same thing..
it most certainly is NOT something that the uwi students do every year...
i can't believe that you would make an arbitrary statement like that without full knowledge of the facts.
in any case if you understand the unfriendly attitude that UWI administration has with the students, you'd realize that what was done was completely warranted.
security has been lacking at that campus for years. the last time that there was a protest was in 1997 when someone was murdered.
UWI students have been too apathetic is these matters and i am very happy to see people take an interest and actually protest like that. good job folks!
Well, I DO have students of UWI that come over for lessons and THEY said that this protest about security is something they do EVERY YEAR. For more information, in 1999 I perfectly REMEMBER watching the news about a similar protest in UWI.

I think that lds should take that comment back and go check again !!! I worked at the university for 2 years and not once was there any protest, the closest there was to a lagre body of students was at the elections rally.
Your students actually totally and I believed deliberately told this to you.I would advise you to check with the university and ask how many protest took place , iam sure you wouldn't  get a reply of every day .Remember this is a place of higher learning, people pay loads of money to learn and gain degrees. It's not woodford square on a lunch time!! and even woodford square has a break!!

You have to be a journalist to seek the truth? Is that what you are telling me? I honestly can't believe what I just read ,and for the record Misses I don't like to make assumptions, I am telling you what occurred whilst I was at the University. I read the newspapers .You made a comment of everyday and Iam telling you that it was not the case.I can't comprehend why you being a journalist have to do about it.
Iam sure that the Mr Teawarie (propbably spelt this incorrectly)would not hesitate to give you or anyone information about the 'so called every day protest'.I would urge you as a 'journalist' to check it out. LOL
