You are correct there Oliron. Even if they are gay they will know if you share their feelings. They are not going to come on to you when your in a tight spot. They like you will be too busy keeping their self alive just like you. I would place my life in the hands of the people I serve with and train with. As long as we all do our job we will survive. IF one of us are hurt or killed I would help them no matter what their sexual preference and I would they would do the same for me.

I have no problem with removing the DADT laws. However, the simple repeal of this protocol needs to be followed up with protocol that addresses the obvious issues that will stem from its repeal. The military had better deal with gay/lesbian/homosexual advancement opportunities and how to ensure that there is no discrimination against openly gay/lesbian/homosexual individuals. They had also better be ready to deal with sexual harassment that will undoubtably ensue once you have openly gay/lesbian/homosexual superiors. The current practice is handy because it allows us to conveniently burry our heads in the sand...undo the practice and we have to face the unpleasant realities.

Don't Ask Don't Tell History & Civil Business Politics

This Thread is similar to other Gay / Homosexual related Threads here and that is that being gay is one thing - announcing it and parading about is purely another. If it is a simple situation of a lady approaching a soldier and him saying "I'm gay" to avoid confusion I can understand. However running around making an announcement either directly or indirectly I do not understand. Your personal choice of intimate partners should not affect your performance unless you choose for it to.

Don't Ask Don't Tell

This is why on the surface that repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" protocol seems so right. Come on...everyone should be allowed to be who they are...right? Most people are in favor of repealing the law. Lawmakers will score points for pushing the repeal through...good for them. However, they are not looking at the potential fallout of such a repeal. Gates seems to get it with the changes that he has made. Sexual misconduct has hit the armed forces before once women were allowed to serve. They were not prepared and had to develop laws after the fact...this will be the same, if they don't get it right the first time. Also, that was then and this is now...so the US government better be ready for lawsuits should a openly gay commander sexually harass a soldier. It will happen. Today you can sue the company and the manager for such an act. In this case, the company is the United States of America.

Will it happen all the time? Of course not. However, it will happen and to burry our faces in the sand and pretend everyone will act responsibly is a folly.

Comments: If someone is gay and fight just as good as the next man then who cares really. They just keep their hands to themselves and everyone will be just fine.
