I am pretty sure that its a felony after a certain amount. However it sounds like they charged him for 29 separate crimes instead of one serious one, strange.

Well I think the tv's provoked him. Everyone knows there are hidden messages in the tvs that tell you you need to buy them. This guy plainly had enough of that and attacked them. Good for him to smash those evil machines. 
I hope this guy sees no tv when he is in prison.
