What they dont tell you is this law is almost exclusively a charge against women. You will be very hard pressed to find this law being enforced against a man. If it were, the S.Korean economy would suffer greatly as the jails would swell and businesses would be without employees. This is still a very male oriented and dominated society and this law IS used as a way to disgrace a spouse that has had a affair. I understand the spirit behind the law and it is noble. However, the practical application of it today is a farce.

I think a jail term for adultery is a fair law. It should of course be equally enforced. I think it is fair because you may be bringing an unknown disease into your marriage while your spouse is unaware and has done nothing to deserve it. Also the emotional pain involved with this act is up there on the list of hurt.
Too many use adultery as a weapon to hurt the other. They have no real interest in the person they are sleeping around with and want to be caught so they can see the hurt they have caused.
This being the case I feel adultery and cheating is some form of assault on the person and should be punishable with jail time.
