Venezuela & Trinidad - Allies?
Do you think Trinidad & Tobago's relationship with Venezuela is a strong one? Are we friends just because we are close geographically or is there a mutal interest. Afterall, we are friends with countries further away so why not someone 'right next door'.

There are many issues that cause a world of seperation, but all is mostly in the mind.
I think the only thing the two countries have in common is the waters they occupy. Everything else is way different including policies. Allies, I do not think so, that is just a front?
Manning was praising Chavez a lot some time ago because he thought Venezuela would give T&T a huge contract for Ammonia (I believe), but instead Venezuela favored Brazil - now Manning is silent and you do not hear anything much on T&T - Venezuela relations - go figure.
In the geopolitical world, Brazil has more to offer than T&T so it would make sense that Venezuela choose a 'mighty partner' that cannot be bullied in the international arena as opposed to small crapeau T&T, the never see, come see nation!
T&T is the best!
Well of course, my point was to show the extent to which T&T sees Venezuela as an ally - money and nothing more. If Chavez starts flexing military might in our space (something Venezuela has done before) then I can assure you that T&T would be looking for Venezuela's enemies for protection: USA / UK.
