Want to know how fracking will affect you? Sorry, that's a state secret!:
Another week, another fracking fiasco. The Government has just published a report on the likely effects of the drilling on Britain's countryside communities - including its possible impact on house prices - that is so heavily redacted it might instead be devoted to a military assessment of options for intervention in Iraq. Residents living nearer natural gas wells report more health symptoms, Yale study says:
People who live closer to natural gas wells, including those that were drilled using "Fracking," Or hydraulic fracturing, report more health symptoms than those who live farther away, according to a study reported today by Yale University researchers. Ref. Source 4
Living near fracking sites deteriorates health - study:
Those who live in close proximity to fracking sites exhibited a greater likelihood to suffer skin and respiratory problems than those who lived farther away from natural gas wells, according to a new study of Pennsylvania's Marcellus shale region. Ref. Source 6
Constructing shale gas sites
Extracting gas from shale rock not only causes environmental disturbances below ground, the surface infrastructure required to drill the wells can cause a variety of problems above ground. Minimizing the environmental consequences above-ground is possible, but at a cost to the developers. However, a new study suggests that the additional cost to developers is far smaller than the savings made to the environment. Ref. Source 4r.
Fracking industry wells associated with increased risk of asthma attacks
People with asthma who live near bigger or larger numbers of active unconventional natural gas wells operated by the fracking industry in Pennsylvania are 1.5 to four times likelier to have asthma attacks than those who live farther away, new research suggests. Ref. Source 7u.
