Manufacturing Depression - Page 2

Of course we are depressed, we are treated as pieces that don't fit a perfect puzzle on almost every front. I say people who think they are depressed need to stop being so complacent. Stop allowing people to tell you how you should act of feel. If you are a bit different good. We are not all cookie cutter people who fit perfectly into their scheme of things.

Stop allowing yourself to feel lacking or not adequate just because some jerk tells you so. Everyone is important and valuable. We have just come out of the wilderness so to speak and right into the factory, being domesticated by corporations.

Don't think you are the only one who feels this whole process is wrong. It is not a shameful thing to recognize you are more than just a time slot and a pay check. Step out of the forced mold and be yourself, we are in battle for our very souls at this point.

It is true this sort of technique has been used all threw history up until now. However now we are at a point were the truth is so obvious we have to decide. Are we robots who simply produce, or humans who have needs beyond this.

Beyond that I saw a lot of posts about depression and suicide. I see the correlation but at the same time wonder so what. Everyone gets depressed, Believe it or not I have suffered greatly from depression and thought about suicide all day long every day at one point. Planning out how I would do it and the best way for it. Though there is always that voice that tells you to hang on, things may get better. If you end your life now you won't be there in the future to see what is.

If that doesn't mean anything to you I am glad you took yourself out and no one else with you. I know this is a harsh stance but if someone hates life to the point to destroy their own in such a purposeful manner, I think the world is better off.

Rather I think it is 110% better to use that life to fight what is ailing you and at least have a chance of changing the world, just saying. Don't just give up in such a selfish horrific way, I don't have much sympathy, sorry.

Depression Manufacturing

Interestingly, depression rates vary widely by culture. For example Mexicans have a very low rate of depression, in spite of living in considerably worse economic conditions than Americans. From the readings that I have done, much of it seems to do with the far stronger family connections and intact communities south of the border. It even seems to extend to this side of the border as well, with Mexican immigrants still having far lower depression rates than Whites. The more acculturated those of Mexican heritage become, the higher their rates of depression.

Comments: If you ask me I think a lot of depression nowadays comes from people using beauty and fashion standards as a standard for how much thy should be accepted. Turn off the TV and stop reading the magazines. Take up a hobby and you'll be totally amazed how much better you feel about yourself and others.

That's very Buddhist of you, Lace. Envy and desire certainly are manufactured by society. We use others as reference points as we are social beings. Marketing taps into those human desires in order to hock products. It makes use of our insecurities.

I think "the Jones's" makes a great cautionary tale (as in keeping up with the Jones's). The actual Jones family went bankrupt in order to keep up the appearance of wealth.
