The Pentagon is ordering most of its approximately 400,000 furloughed civilian employees back to work. The Pentagon did not immediately say on Saturday exactly how many workers will return to work. The Defense Department said "Most" Were being brought back. Ref. USAToday

Pentagon to announce moratorium for military labs handling toxins, pathogens

The Pentagon plans to announce later today a freeze of all its labs that deal with toxins, pathogens and bacteria, such as anthrax, a Defense official told USA TODAY. The moratorium comes after officials took a detailed look at policies and procedures at the labs and found them wanting, said the official who was not authorized to speak publicly. "Nobody is shipping anything," The official told USA TODAY.

The Pentagon and National Guard paid professional sports teams to publicly honor soldiers at sporting events, according to a Senate oversight report released Wednesday that labeled the practice "Inappropriate and frivolous." Ref. Source 7b
