Sir Garasthar asks the guard (Minn) about the centipedes. He says nothing only giving you a look, you find it strange realizing he hasn't made a peep the whole trip. Minn goes back to chopping wood.
Sir Garasthar looks for Jash or Hode to ask about the centipedes but sees they are about 50 feet out of camp collecting wood. Instead Sir Garasthar surveys the area figuring he'll ask Hode when he gets back in a minute or two.
The whole party now only consists of 5 characters. Hode (guard leader), Jash (1st guard), Minn (2nd guard), Lwentano, and Sir Garasthar. The priests women and children have headed north for Jorine.
Meanwhile Lwentano has been surveying the campsite as well. The half elf has thrust his sword into the ground and seems to be hunting, something.
Lwentano's blade makes it a few inches into the ground. The half elf can no longer hear any twitching noise. He pulls his blade from the earth battle ready, expecting a centipede to come out of the ground at him. Slowly Lwentano realizes what the twitching noise was. He now has a toad (dead), shish-kabobed on his blade.
Lwentano slides the dead toad off his sword with his foot as he looks around the camp looking like he did something wrong. He mumbles something about he thought he heard something and then goes over and sits next to a tree. He takes out a oiled cloth and cleans off his sword. He then puts his sword away and takes out a dagger cutting two small strips of cloth which he stuffs in his ears.
Hode and Jash return with more wood, dropping it near the newly formed fire pit. Minn eyes it approvingly and begins filtering thew the limbs with a saw.
Sir Garasthar takes the opportunity to ask about the centipedes. Hode explains that the centipedes in these parts get much bigger than a mans boot. Jash claims the largest known centipede is documented to have been the size of a large house.
Hode announces that he and Jash are heading out now. He repeats that Jash and himself will be back before dusk (in a about 2 hours). Hode leaves his horse tied to a tree telling Minn to keep care of it. He and Jash then begin to walk off into the northwest.
Sir Garasthar is able to shrug off his astonishment. Hopefully, "I will be able to see or hear them coming better." The image of a gigantic centipede stuck in his mind. He shivers and says under his breath, "If I survive this the people back home will never believe me..."
Later that night when trying to sleep tremendous pain wracks his body. He can't fall asleep. His entire body is throbbing. Eventually after a few hours of this he falls unconsious.
Out of Character: His mutation has grown to +3 Strength. Or would you like it to go up to +2 and then +3?
After a few hours Hode and Jash return. They enter camp and share what they have found from scouting. Minn has made soup, Jash and Hode grab a bowl and sit down by the fire to eat.
Hode speaks between sips, "We found the entrance (sip) it's crawling with spiders though (sip). Tomorrow we are going to have to clear a way threw (chew)."
Hode takes a big drink finishing his soup. He gives the two of you a concerned look, "Neither of you is scared of spiders or anything right?"
---
The night passes without encounter, though it was very cold and pitch black. Sir Garasthar had some trouble sleeping but it did not disturb the others sleep. The guards are awake and fresh. They are packed up and ready to go.
I would say go to a +2 then a +3.
Sir Garasthar, through an hour of praying and solitude was able to relieve his pain for the time being and call on his God to bestow rest upon him. He looks at his entire body and wonders silently, "How long can I stand this?"
Now that it is morning, he will check all his weapons and armor. He hefts his greatsword, which to his suprise seems to weigh much less than it did last night. When the others are ready, he will tell them, "Put me where you want me to be, I am fine anywhere in line."
Party formation: Hode, Jash, Lwentano, Sir Garasthar, Minn
The party arrives in the spider infested area quickly. They are certain they have arrived by the amount of spider webs littering the area.
Hode points to the trees in a particular area and pulls out his bow nothing an arrow.
At this point I will need spot checks from the players and any other rolls you might add.
