Sir Valdalen's eyes widen, seeing the skyborne creature. "That is no normal fowl!" he shouts, constraining his voice, and frantically looking for somewhere to hide. "We must get under cover - us, our gear, everything, or it will see us and no approach will be secure!"
Aive and maybe Del, possibly Gefuth and Myranni could probably hide well enough, but Valdalen and Lwentano would have a much tougher time of it. They group needed to get out of sight before the flying thing turned its attention to their area - who knew how good a vision it had.
"Surely among the outdoor survival, tracking, hiding and geology lore between all of us, we can figure out something to help hide us better than these scant trees and scrub?" asks the Paladin, wrapping bits of cloth around the shinier parts of his armor and weapons - something he should have done beforehand. He looks for an outcropping or natural windbreak to duck behind or under, opposite the creature, and tries to judge how well the trees and bushes WOULD hide someone, and how many someones, but that is probably more Del's specialty.
Myrrani whispers to the distraught Valdalen.
"Hush, no use hiding if your yelling draws it to us anyways. We need a place to stay until the morn, I would rather face creatures of darkness during the day, if that is what we face. Shall we fall back to the edge of the forest and make camp, or should we rush the cave now, and try to be out before night?"
Lwentano pulls his bow out and readies a arrow. If the bird gets within range he will shoot it. Getting rid of the bird can help our cause a lot he thinks.
Yes we need to find some shelter. I would also prefer to approach the cave in the day and not at night. If yonder bird gets close enough shooting it out of the sky may be in our best interests.
"I agree," says Valdalen backing up, keeping an eye on the bird. "I say we backtrack to the nearest cover and camp low-key until tomorrow, assuming this thing doesn't get close enough to spot us before then."
GM note: The small patch of bushes and a tree nearby would be able to hide the party momentarily. Moving back further from the cave and finding cover would be needed to be sure to stay out of sight, if you have not already been seen.
All right if anyone tries to sleep again before we finish this quest I am going to Coup de Grace them in their sleep. I'll sneak ahead and check it out
