Comments: The Lovely Bones is a great movie. From beginning to end you will be wanting to know what happens next and how it's going to end.

Spoiler

The movie centers on a serial killer who murders young girls and one of the special victims named Jennifer that was so loved by her father that her spirit could not leave this world. This movie leans heavily on the viewer having an acceptance about the existence of an afterlife or spirits in general. I wouldn't call it a religious movie but if you're the kind of person that dismisses anything paranormal or divine then you might find this a difficult watch. Besides that you will enjoy the thriller aspect as you get a first hand look at the life of a killer. Some scenes were very dramatic and narrated by Jennifer as though it were being read from a journal. Overall I thought it was entertaining and left me thinking about the afterlife.

The Lovely Bones

OL thanks for the review. I believe I will enjoy that because I do have some thoughts about the afterlife. The Lovely Bones opens over the weekend in my area so I plan to see it and add my two cents as well.

The Lovely Bones

I watched this film last night. I didn't enjoy too much the director's concept of the "in between" of heaven and earth (almost comical costumes and settings extremely surreal?) but I enjoyed a LOT the thriller aspect of the whole movie. It was fantastic, it left me quite sad. As a matter of fact, the whole movie is so emotional that you keep thinking you hope as a parent to never have to go through what the parents went through. It also reminds you of cherishing every minute you have with your kids because the truth is that you never know when you may see them again.

The acting was top notched, Mark Wahlberg as the father was excellent and Saoirse Ronan as Susie was also fantastic.

I can see how a movie like this can become a ray of hope to parents whose children have died either from natural causes, illnesses or have been murdered. It gives them hope that as much as we think of them as "dead" they are VERY MUCH alive!

I saw it over the weekend. I thought it was a nice film but the parts where she is sort of in an in between world was kind of confusing. Mark Wahlberg did a very good job as the tormented father. I was unfamiliar with Saoirse Ronan up to this point but she brough naievity to a whole new level. She really has big blue eyes. I read some comparisons with the book and most say that the movie is not as gruesome. I also read that some people felt the Lovely Bones was scary but I didn't get that impression. Sure there are some quick scenes but I wouldn't refer to it as anything horrific. Now here is something I didn't get. The Asian girl didn't seem to do anything to help get the killer caught. She just talked about the experience but seemed more interested in the world she's in. You don't get much out of the other girls either.
