I can't believe that you could possibly "forget" 3 children in a car, if you had 3 children, it would be so out of routine to have all those hours to yourself anyway.Really would none of those children say anything to remind you that they were there as you got out of the car? I know in our car you would certainly know that children were in the car.
I think it's getting more and more of a me, me and more of me culture!
I don't know why these statistical figures are rising, but it's really tragic, that the one person that these children should be able to fully rely on has so badly let them down resulting in tragic consequences.
Sure, it's true that it's terrible for parents to leave their child in the car like that, but I bet they'd never do it again even without punishment. Don't you think losing your child is the worst punishment possible? They were probably busy or distracted and didn't think it would hurt the child. (Not as intelligent as you and me we might say.) They probably regret it now and probably don't deserve anything more. It does depend on the situation though...
As a parent, I know that there are times when I would like to take the wife to a local casino, and have some fun. However, I would never leave my kids by themselves. I don't know how many times we have scrapped such plans because we could not find a babysitter. My daughter is 11 and very mature for her age. She probably could take care of herself and the 2-year old, but that is not a chance we want to take when the casino is a good 2 hours away. Being a parent means you have to be responsible for others, and that comes back to the argument of whether some people are even ready to be parents.
Yes, they probably regret their actions, but because they were caught. I bet you if they hadn't been caught, they would have done it again. Why does it take getting caught for people to realize that something should not be done?
What about if you go to shop around with you little dog at your side but you leave your 2 years old toddler in your BMW at the parking lot alone?

SCOTTSDALE - A mother faces child endangerment charges after a valet called police to report she left her 2-year-old son alone in her BMW while she shopped at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Gardenia Zakrzewski-Johansson was arrested in the mall parking lot outside Neiman Marcus after valets watched her walk into the store with a small dog under her arm, directing them to watch her car with the child inside. "I'll be quick, don't tell anybody," Zakrzewski told one of the valets before going into the store for nearly 30 minutes, according to the police report. The 39-year-old woman faces a Class 1 misdemeanor charge for the Monday afternoon incident, Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said. "We don't think it's ever appropriate to leave your child alone in the car for five minutes, let alone 25 minutes," Clark said.... |
