Breast fed babies are the strongest and brightest kids, but is there a time when you have to say, 'Okay, enough already?'

Breast Feeding When is it too much? - Page 2

There is nothing like a breastfeeding argument between husband and wife.  Men always worry about the physical disadvantages that may occur to the wife.  SAGGING.

:smile.gif Wait a second! I had not looked over this thread for awhile and then suddenly saw this. Lets me first clear up what this 'man' is worried about, and it is not 'sagging'. I am concerned about the emotional need of the child to constantly need it as a means of security more than as food. Examples of this would be;

1. Getting up 4-5 times a night like a new born at age 3
2. When mom has to go out and the child wants want he cannot give for obvious reasons
3. Child not being able to go to day care and these kinds of things because of her need for breast milk or the super attachment to mother.

I think it is great, but at a certain age the child needs to be able to function without thinking that if breast milk is not within 10 feet away there is trouble.

Okay, before you reply...

Isn't funny how men can give their opinions on something they don't have a clue about because they have NO WAY to know what's it's like?. Oh gosh, they don't learn...do they?  :smile.gif :smile.gif :smile.gif >:(

Breast Feeding When is it too much? Reviews Consumer & Travel Family Culture

Hello, may I have some breastfeeding .................................................................................................. ? I mean info.

Expecting our first baby mid June. And it's my wife who worry about sagging and the inconveniences to herself and the baby.

To me, I always thought (or have read about it anyway), that breastmilk is best and should be fed for at least a year. Anyway, it's at least 7 months before baby can sit up, I was told, and probably a couple more months before she can walk. So, in the meantime, she will need to be carried around right? And when it comes tea time or so, Mommy can always do both at the same time. That is, serve refreshment and cuddle the baby.

But seriously, when is it a good time to wean the baby off breastfeeding? My wife said 2 months and that's because her maternity leave is only for two months. We are told too that mother's milk can still be given but expressed out to be kept until the appropriate feeding time. Are there any negative aspects to this?

LOL@JB.
Fireduck, first of all let me congratulate you and your wife for the baby you all are expecting smile.gif
Now, let me start saying something not really nice but do not take it personal to your wife ok?. smile.gif Some women just do not want to be bother about breastfeeding, they're very selfish in my opinion, they care too much on how they will look like if they do it, the inconvenience, what people will say and all those stupid things...I feel sorry for those women, they don't really care much about their children but they care more about themselves because if a woman is healthy, strong she should breastfeed because any doctor will tell you that it's the BEST for the child. There is absolutly nothing that can be compared with breast milk not to mention the close relationship between the mother and the child. If I was you, I would strongly encourage your wife to breastfeed for at least a year. You may want to encourage her by buying books about it or joining La Leche League in your nearest city.

There is not answer for it, most women breastfeed until their kids are at least 1 year old. That's what doctors recommend, she doesn't have to breastfeed the baby for only 2 months, as you well mentioned she can express her milk and feed the baby with the bottle. Weaning is about both, mother and child, sometimes one is ready and the other is not so both of them need to be ready to make the transition well. Breastfeeding will the best experience in motherhood for your wife, she will be able to give your child the best that God has gave to her to feed her baby. Oh, and tell her for me that if she's worried about the sagging thing, she will still having it EVEN if she doesn't breastfeed because the glands will still producing milk. But there are so many things that she can do about it. It will be hard in the begining but it will bring a lot of good stuff later on.

Nothing is more beautiful than a mother breastfeeding her child smile.gif
The negative aspects about it are:

1) That her milk is for some reason not good, the doctor will tell if there is any problem.
2) Her breasts will be engorged at the begining so it will hurt , but it will go away later on. If she breasfeed more often, the pain will go away faster.
3) The baby doesn't want to stop breastfeeding smile.gif I recommend that when the baby turns 8 months or so, you can make the transition with the bottle.

That's it! Hope it helps smile.gif Let me know if you have any more questions.

LDS,

Thanks for the advice. Actually shared your post with my wife. She is okay and very open to advice. More worried about what is right and what is not. First time parents, what to do. Maybe a year on, I may be back here dishing out some 'qualified' advice myself. wink.gif

In the meantime, my job is to get ready to chronicle the birth event as well as the growing up of the baby. Camera, Lights, Action!  Nervously looking forward to it.

On a serious note though. You will love that your child is getting breast milk, she will be strong, and you won't have to get up in the middle of the night to warm a bottle!
