Should pregnant women wear seat belts?

What about children up to 6 and 7, should they be in car seats? One danger is sleeping in a car... even if your seat belt is on, not being up to prepare for the impact can make everything worse. What are your thoughts?

I always wear my seatbelt.  I have practically drilled it into my children how important it is to wear their seatbelt, because it can save their life in an accident.  They passed a new law here in, Mississippi, called the 'Click it or Ticket' program.  Where they do random traffic stops to make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing their seatbelt.  But many times while I am driving through town I see the people with kids in their cars and they're bouncing and jumping around all over the car, hanging out the windows, sitting in an adults lap.  It makes me angry that some people care so little, to take that extra minute to buckle a seatbelt on their children.  

I also think that pregnant women should wear a seatbelt.  What's a little bruising to losing your life and/or the life of your unborn child by not wearing your seatbelt?

It may feel really uncomfortable wearing a seat belt when you are pregnant, but as it's the law in most (if not all) areas, you have to wear one just for that. Most importantly though, you need to be wearing a seat belt for both yourself and your unborn child's sake.You can't rewind time, or bring back a life if a fatal accident has been caused through not wearing one.

children should always wear a seat belt, as they are children, they don't know what's best for them, so as you are the adult in the situation, you have to take the responsibility for the child to always be safe, whilst travelling in a car.

The tension on a seatbelt when the car comes to a sudden stop are usually at the ends. The middle has some give, and this would be where the baby in a pregnant woman's stomach is. I have not heard of an incident where a seat belt caused a fatality in an unborn infant during a collision, but there may very well be such an occasion. I would venture to guess such incidents are very rare.

I stress to all my kids to wear seatbelts at all times while in a car, even if going on a short trip down the street. My son is still in a car seat, but my 11-year old daughter still wears a seatbelt while in the car, even in the backseat. It is a habit for her, which is good. I am a huge advocate for seatbelt use, especially with children.

Babies should not be left alone to sleep in car safety seats, especially if they were born prematurely, New Zealand pediatricians report.

This is something very dangerous but that most parents, do. A lot of these kids have breathing problems that parents are not aware of, so when the kid is sleeping and his head goes forward, he cannot breathe properly and he/she dies. There was a case recently in Utah.

I always wear a seat belt and have ingrained it in my children also. As for pregnant ladies I do not think the seat belt is a hazard to the baby. Far as a hit to the belly the moms stomach is an awesome protector. I would fear the sudden stop (brain collision in skull) ccausing more damage then the pressure exerted on the stomach.

My nine year old stayed in a booster till he was tall enough for the shoulder belt in the back seat to fit him correctly. I also employ a seat belt clip on the shoulder strap to ensure it crosses his chest where it should.

For sleeping when my children were small we always padded around theirs heads to keep them from falling forward or to the side to prevent seat belt pressure on their neck. Also what if you got hit where does the child' seat belt end up hitting them!

We never let the boys sleep in the car seat unless we were traveling. It stayed in the car and we took them out and put them in a proper stroller of a baby seat meant for sleeping. I guess thats why we always had a truck just to tote the gear.

Even now I have neck cushions the boys use in the car if they feel tired just to ensure they are sitting in the correct position in case of an accident. Get lots off pillows and stack them beside the child it really helps.
