AFP - President Barack Obama ditched US plans to return to the moon and hitched NASA's future to private industry in a budget calling for the space agency to stay close to Earth and do research.
I think the president ditching some of NASAs plans is plan foolish. I know he would rather spend the money on his own pet projects but space exploration should be a high priority to all. Cutting programs out of NASA is foolish in my opinion.
It is important but I feel the opposite way. I think space exploration needs to hold off for a while. Every day we are developing new technologies that could drastically reduce the difficulty of space flight. I think we are reaching for the stars so to speak, when it is not needed. If we let our technology catch up, to our dreams and aspirations I think we will find exploration mutch easier.
I'm not saying we should stop funding just focus more on the how and why, instead of throwing money at a program that really isn't ready for it. Maybe shift the moon fund to a development team that can possibly design a better space craft.
What I am trying to say is I think we are trying to fly before we have learned to walk.
This depends on a lot of what really is up there. According to documentaries like "Moon Rising" there is a whole other world out there that will definitely be worth spending money to explore.

I think there is a lot up there that we need to get our hands on. Just look at the astroid belt between mars and Jupiter. Think of the riches that are there. What about the far side of the moon, Mars itself. We have a lot of potential spots that can give us the added resources we need to actually come up with better space craft. The fact that this funding is getting cut is hurting our future big time.
