Cody Posey Murder Trial

What are your thoughts about the Cody Posey Murder Trial wherein Cody killed his father, stepmother and stepsister. He claimed he was not guilty because he suffered years of abuse. He was sentenced to a youth facility until he is age 21 and then he will be released - October 2010.

Trial Murder Posey Cody

I agree with the sentence. The things this kid went through are terrible and I think it was the cause of him killing his father and the rest of his family.

international QUOTE
Cody was terrified when he learned he was to be put back into the care of his father where he was verbally and physically abused during their custody battle. Paul's second wife testified that she had protected Cody from his father's wrath on many different occasions and at his trial, thirty-seven other witnesses retold accounts of Paul's abusive ways.

Two of which, fellow ranch hands, confirmed that on numerous occasions Cody had been smacked on the back of his hands with a hay hook, pointy end down. On another occasion, Paul had threatened to tear off Cody's balls if he popped the clutch while driving the pick-up.

What really sent Cody over the edge was not getting slapped in the face, but when his father had tried to coerce Cody into having sex with Tyrone, who was also a proponent for Cody's abuse, the night before. Paul's second wife testified that Paul had an incest fetish and often watched pornography of that theme on his personal computer. He and Tyrone must have been a match made in heaven. After he refused to partake in this gross sexual act, Paul burned Cody with a welding iron....

Sounds to me that this young man snapped. He killed an abusive father who wanted him to preform sexual acts. I can see him killing the step mother who probably helped in some cases abuse him. The only thing I question is why did he kill his step sister?

These children are not getting the love and support they deserve and when they snap and free themselves, they are the ones on trial. How can this be fair? I know, there is a right way of doing something a wrong way. However, how many of us can say what we would do if were were subjected to years of torment and abuse by those who should be there for us...

Comments: I personally think that he should have been tried as an adult and he would have been if he was about three months older. He was smart enough to run away at one point, but didn't call the police to have his parents arrested, and then went back home. This tells me that he wanted revenge, not justice. He's a murderer who got a slap on the wrist and that doesn't sit right with me.

Sure, he _may_ have been abused, but that doesn't give him the right to take the law into his own hands. He should have called the police and had his parents arrested, not gun them and his stepsister down in cold blood.

Maybe he'll make a better life for himself now, but I really think he deserves at least twenty years for killing his stepsister.

The sister part I couldn't understand and that's why I think he snapped because I don't recall anywhere reading his sister was involved in the whole abuse.

Comments: I also agree with his sentence and that he snapped after years of abuse and, probably even worse for a teenage boy/man, the humiliation and indignity of having it happen in front of others. As for his sister, the one person he felt he could count on for years and loved, the betrayal he must have felt when she started "tattling" on Cody and being rewarded for it, must have been overwhelmingly hurtful to him.

Oliver thanks for adding that part about the sister, I didn't know that. It was an awful experience for all the family involved but specially for this young man.
