It's very difficult to determine why he killed his step sister also, but abused peoples' minds don't normally tend to work things through as logically sometimes as a non abused person, so my guess is that he had a complete breakdown. Not being in charge of his mental actions, I would think that the jury would have to view his punishment slightly differently also.

It's very tragic that it came to this before any help was given to him.

What bothers me is the people who judge him, unless you're in the guy's shoes then you cannot possibly know what you would do in a situation like that.

Comments: I actually went to school with Cody and was completely shocked when I heard that he murdered his family. I remember that him and his sister didn't get along very well and that she would tattle on Cody about things he didn't even do just so he would get in trouble. His punishment would usually be abusive. I do agree that he should have just run away but I think he felt that he could never run away and that his dad would always find him.

Comments: I think Cody must have felt an overwhelming sense of betrayal and hurt when his sister would tattle on him and he had to watch her being rewarded in front of himself and then had to endure senseless and degrading punishment for something most teenage boys parents would consider innocent behavior. If you watched his testimony you saw how detached, unemotional and cold he was. Classic behavior for an abused individual. They have had to suppress normal emotions for so long those emotions are buried too deep to be available to them. I pray Cody everyday and hope the best for him.
