Looks like this young child was using his young friend as someone to abuse and went to far. I think he did not mean to kill the girl he just went too far. It was his fear of his dad that led him to hide the body. I think he deserves another trial to possibly lessen the time he has to spend in prison. But you have to remember at the age of 14 he knew that killing someone was wrong.

The main thing about this case is that he was more concerned about himself and getting in trouble with his dad than the innocent girl's life which he had in his hands and could have easily got her help, hence the sentence.
