This is a border line .Woman cross it they meet oposition
Man cross it he meets oposition. This never ends
As long as the woman or man expresses the way they feel in the with no doubt art form of cooking and this pleases the majority then you have the makings of a top notch CHEF at this point it does not matter if its woman or man the basic fact is
THE GRUB IS 5 STAR GOOD and thats all that counts
MAX rests his case
If I were to hazard a guess, I would guess that women do the best traditional cooking, because it is passed down usually from mother to daughter, whereas in this day and age, there are more men staying at home to raise kids than ever before having to learn their own methods of cookery.
It is my guess, only from personal observation, that men seem to be a lot happier at experimenting with different foods, and I feel that this is why the top chefs mainly tend to be men.
Only in my opinion of course
CrysGarcia, excuse the pun, but since he is in Iraq does this mean that no one dares come over? (just a light moment still on topic since we are talking about male / female cooking).
I was recently thinking that I am starting to see more female chefs on TV. They are not professionals really, they refer to themselves often as 'house cooks' as they mostly cater for family meals. However, it seems that many are looking to 'mom' rather than 'dad' these days for their meals, even in commercial arenas we often see the labels about "Home Best Cooking" or "Home Goodness" and often mom / wife or the woman of the home is associated with homemade and so the ladies win!
I honestly believe it matters very little as to what your sex is as to how good of a cook you are. My mother was a fabulous cook and my father could barely make a acceptable "peanut butter and jelly" sandwich. My 2 sisters are horrible cooks and have little interested in it. I enjoy cooking and do most of it in our house and my brother is a good cook as well.
Rather off topic, but... My wife loves to complain about cooking (not that she actually does any, but seems to know all about it) and I can tell when I have done well as there is not much discussion but wonderful silence. Been a lot of silence in the last few years! |

Give me anything Italian to cook: Pizza, cheesy bread sticks, cannelloni, lasagna...etc I can cook almost anything Italian. I haven't tried as yet gocchi di patata (Potato gnocchi) but is not hard at all, I grew up seeing all these foods being prepared.
I think some men are terrific in the kitchen but I suppose it has nothing to do whether you are male or female but rather certain dishes you may be able to cook better than others.
JB this is an interesting topic to raise. I believe that women in society are regarded as "the caretakers;" they look after the children, ensure that their spouses come home to a clean house and a home cooked meal. Women are also expected to raise the children and also be the problem solver. It is no wonder that women choose not to become chefs since that seems to be a full time job for them at home! I have encountered women who love to cook but choose not to pursue it as a full time profession since they claim that stress removes the joy out of creating new dishes. I cannot provide an explanation for why males are attracted to the job as a chef. I have met a few men who believe that there is a stigma attached to cooking because they have been socialized to believe that cooking is really "a woman's job" and "a woman's place is in the kitchen!" I guess we live in an androcentric society whereby roles are clearly defined. However, I am happy to announce that society is slowly changing. I think both men and women are excellent chefs! However, I must admit that sometimes, I have tasted food in a restaurant prepared by male chefs and compared to food prepared by female chefs, the males seem to do a better job than the females!
