In my own experience men are more experimental with cooking while women tend to follow the recipe more closely.
This is only based on my wife and myself.
I do create some interesting recipes but occasionally my experimentation is too much for the kids.
Men are good at commercial cooking but everyone always talks about how good their mother / grandmother or aunt's cooking is, no one will talk about dad or uncle so that should define who is better in my opinion. Even with saying that my cooking isn't all that good yet.
If we talk about home-cooking, definitely women. But professional cooking is usually up to men. If I remember well, in last year's "Best chef in the world" top ten there was only a woman. And how many top class restaurants do you know where the head chef is a "She"?
Sleuth, I think is because men are more greedy than women when it comes to food. There are more male gluttons, many females eat just because they have to. If we look at the big numbers, more men take culinary as a form of art. So, in the end, is only a matter of how many people gets dedicated to it, nothing to do with skills or ability.
