Eat to live or live to eat?

The Power of Food!

:spock: Food is part of our lives, it is need for survival. but we also seem to base our very existence around it. Here are a few examples to show what I mean, you can post after and say if you could handle it...

1. Sit down and watch a double feature movie without eatting or drinking anything

2. Invite a friend over and then don't offer them anything

3. Ask someone to meet you to talk about something between the hours of 11am to 1pm and do not eat anything

4. Invite everyone to the dinner table, let them know it is going to be a special 'feast', when they are there invite them to fast for the hungry in Africa by giving up dinner.

I can't go without something to drink during a movie.  Now if the double feature isn't very long, I won't need a snack or anything like that.  We usually go out to eat before we go to the theater.

Hmmm, I guess I'm just a bad hostess. wink.gif  I don't ever offer my company anything.  But then again, everyone just helps themselves while they're at my home anyway.  :)

I've got to eat something during that time.  If I'm meeting someone between that time, I usually suggest a luncheon meeting or brunch.

:spock:  If I was to do that, people would start protesting at the dinner table.  And then they would try to drive me out of the house.  ;)  lol

I don't like to go to the cinema but when I watch TV from home, I don't need to have food in order to enjoy the movie.

2. Invite a friend over and then don't offer them anything.

Oh no, like Mss said if I don't, it will look like I'm not a good hostess wink.gif I always invite something to eat and drink. smile.gif

I could go through the double feature without food, but water? No way, I'm like a freaking otter in that regard, also in that I swim on my back and do cute little human things with my hands.

I could do this, but why would I want to? biggrin.gif I love candy and so I enjoy getting snow caps or some other treat at the theater. Now, if I am at home, this is much less of a problem. As far as a drink, if I am in the theater I can't drink anything anyway or I will miss half the movie while visiting the bathroom. laugh.gif

I could do this, but I would feel like a poor hostess and think it rude.

I could meet without eating at this time, but I would definately need to eat either just before or right after the meeting. I don't eat breakfast most days so I definately need my lunch!

No way! I don't have the guts to do this one! laugh.gif

1. A double feature is like 4 or 5 hours!! I'd have to at least have water.

2. I can't answer this one... it's been too long since I've had a friend here sad.gif

3. Gotta be lunch or brunch smile.gif or I eat before I go.

4. laugh.gif the way I cook, I'm not so sure anyone would be disappointed laugh.gif

But seriously, JB... we have to eat to survive. Social eating isn't such a bad thing if you can do it without overeating or eating junk.

We have to eat to live, not live to eat

That is the key, but often times it used as a 'medication', this thread was started just to show how we plan a lot 'for' it.

No eating I can manage, but no drinking? I doubt it.

2. Invite a friend over and then don't offer them anything

I think I wouldn't offer anything to eat, but I'm pretty sure I would offer a coffee or something to drink.

3. Ask someone to meet you to talk about something between the hours of 11am to 1pm and do not eat anything

I can do it without a problem.

4. Invite everyone to the dinner table, let them know it is going to be a special 'feast', when they are there invite them to fast for the hungry in Africa by giving up dinner.

Man, you are "killing" me. Where do you come up with these questions? laugh.gif
I wouldn't have the courage to do such a thing ... even if I would, my wife would surely kick me out of the house.
