Have you ever got on a horse's back? If you have then you know how much your but and inner thigh hurts after. Ridinf forces are fun though, just don't surprise them suddenly or you will be thrown to the ground.

What are your thoughts on horses?

When I was in the fifth grade (10 years old), I had a friend who used to go to the local stables and ride often.  She brought me with her once and told me to tell them I had ridden before so we wouldn't get stuck in some corral with someone walking my horse on a lead.  So, I pretended I knew how to ride. ;D  Talk about stupid.  At one point the horse went from a canter to a gallop or something like that where the gait changes, and I almost fell off!ohmy.gif  Then when we were done, we were standing around the stables and I accidently touched the horses tail while it was eating.  It kicked me in the arm/shoulder.  Man, it hurt.  I cried like a baby too! :'(  Never went back to ride another horse ever again.  I will stick to motorcycles thank you very much! biggrin.gif

Love to ride horses.
I grew up around horses and have down my share of getting thrown to the ground.
But I know how to be around them, and use them.My wife would expect no less, her dad was a cowboy (breakin' horses when he was only 13).
A horse is probably the most useful animal on the planet, and a very good judge of character as well.

My most memorable exp. on a horse is when I was younger my family took a vacation to the sierra nevada/davis lakes area north of bishop ,CA. on horseback,it was a 8 mile trip(which is nothing but my rear did not think so)up the mountain there,we stayed a week then 8 miles back. Something I will never forget.

I love horses, I'm just terrified of them....I like to look at them, but I don't like to be any where near them, I'm afraid they kick me!

LDS, did something happen to make you so afraid of horses? They seem so gentle to me, even though I did get kicked. I know they can hurt you, but any wild animal can, but I don't think it is part of their nature to hurt you unprovoked.

One of my cousins growing up had, first, a Shetland pony, and then a Pinto pony, and then a Palamino. Each bigger than the next smile.gif We rode quite often -- she more than me, obviously, since they were hers. It was a lot of fun, even going head over heels over the horse's neck when he decides he's done with you and stops in his tracks. But it's been years since I've been on a horse. Have you ever been on a horse who happens to be swimming?? That's the most awesome feeling!

I've heard them described as "big dogs with hooves." So smart, easily trained, lots of personality, and very loyal. I could tell you stories smile.gif

Don't Horse Around

When I was 8,9, and 10 years old my Uncle rented some acreage north of the Seattle area. He had three horses, two cows, a bunch of chickens, two dogs and too many cats to keep track of. I spent the summers with him and my Aunt there. I lived in bib overalls and underpants! No shirt, socks or shoes. I would climb up on the fence and climb on Nightmare and ride all over the place on him. NO one could ride Nightmare. My Uncle got bucked off every time. Actually Nightmare decided who he would let ride him. He and I got along great. When he wanted me off he would sit and I would slide off, then he wouldn't get close to the fence again. Nightmare HATED saddles, ride him bareback and he was nice. Put a saddle on him and he would do his best to kill you. My uncle put the saddle on the fence rail and Nightmare kicked it so hard he broke the rail!!

I even rode the cows! If they would let me on their backs I would get up on them. I didn't care where they went, or even if they went very far. Up on the cows I could curl up and go to sleep, their backs were wide enough! As long as all the dishes were done, the floors swept and the milk put in the coolers, I could do whatever I wanted until milking time at 5p.m. I LOVED those summers. I was so tanned, happy and healthy.

When I was thirteen, me and my parents moved to a ranch were I learned to break and ride horses. I remember spending all summer riding my first horse, a big black appaloosa gelding named sam. We had a 350 acres, and after my first year there I had explored almost all of it. Sam was the easiest horse to be around, but wouldn't let anybody but me and my three year old cousin ride him. He never bucked others off, he just wouldn't move! I now own a ranch, breaking and breeding horses, they are a lot of work, but can be your best friend, a loyal companion.
