You can't pet or cuddle them, but they sure are fun to watch.

Do you have or have you ever owned an aquarium? They are fun to have in the house. People that visit your home always glance towards it to see the fish. A great conversational piece and better yet, if it is salt water then you can have exotic marine life. Changing the water can be a pain, but you know, it is not as often as giving a dog a bath. What is your favorite fish for an aquarium and have you ever tried to maintain a salt water one?

Tank Fish

I just recently got a small fish tank for my fish. It's a fresh water fish, I think. My sister had a salt water fish aquarium, but found it difficult to maintain.

We have had two other fish aquariums full of fish, but they ended up dying due the chemicals they put in the drinking water. Even after using and treating the water in the fish tank, they still would perish on me. smile.gif-->rolleyes.gif So this small fish tank I have is the first one I've had in a while.

It seems to be doin well all things considering and I only have one fish in it.

I have a small fish tank too, a fresh water one. It would be good to try a salt water one, but those are probably more expensive and a lot harder to maintain.

I have a red beta fish now, the other one I had was a blue beta fish but he died after 3 years. I think he lived for quite a long time, he was already a grown-up when we bought him smile.gif

Fortunatelly we haven't had problems with chemicals in the water so far. I wouldn't like to drink the same water that is killing my fishes biggrin.gif

I have a blue Betta fish and so far he seems to be doing quite well. wink.gif But I'm also using a special Betta fish chemical in the water to balance the ph level in the water for the Betta fish.

And you are also right Da, I don't drink the water that kills my fish. This time when I set up the fish tank, I used water from a water purifier to help give the fish a better chance of survival. wink.gif

Tank Fish

My second husband really enjoyed fish tanks. We had a 50 gallon tank at one time, with very big fish in it smile.gif The tank was probably four feet long, 2 feet tall, and 1.5 to 2 feet deep. Plants, shells, snails, toys, bottom feeders, the bubbler, and etc. It was very fun, but not when it comes to cleaning it out!! sheesh... took a long time and is very stinky, but has to be done.

Salt-water tanks are so beautiful! If I ever decide to get a tank, it would be salt water. i know they are more difficult to maintain, and the fish are more expensive, but they are so much more beautiful than the fresh water varieties.

My favorites are the blennies -- I think that's how you spell it... they are small and really exotically patterned and colored. And the kind of sit on the bottom of the tank, using their front flippers as "props" -- really cute.

Unlike African water frogs, I love fish. My gold fish that I got from a feeder tank is still alive. I got it about 5 years ago! Now IMO thats a old fish. It started out probably about 1 inch big, and now its probably 5 inchs across. I love that fish!

Fish are wonderful and quite therapeutic for their soothing qualities. They are also a very good source of positive Feng Shui. Mom won a 55 gallon tank kit in a bingo game when I was very young, so we had fish from my earliest recollections. I grew to love the many varieties that made up our watery community. Zebras, angels, silver dollars, kissing gouramis, neons, tiger barbs and a few others were regular denizens. I even appreciated our nasty looking black plecostomus that grew so large (8" long, honest!!!) it looked like it had tiny trees on its head.

My sister and I each had our own goldfish bowls in our room. The first pair I remember owning were named Sonny and Cher. They were "fair" fish, which usually don't survive too long, but these two thrived for nearly a year. Emily overfed hers, not understanding the cause and effect this would have. No more fish for her for a while. wink.gif

During my 20's I had one of those cool little 2 gallon hexagonal tanks that I kept in my bedroom wherever I was sharing housing. I alternated between neons and bettas, with the occasional powder blue gourami.

Several years ago we were begged to rescue the chiclid of one of our friends. This poor fish, 1.5'" long, was kept in a tiny betta bowl that his cat constantly knocked over. Not only was the poor fish regularly batted around, he went unknown hours flopping around on our friend's floor during the instances when noone was home. It's a wonder this fish survived as long as he did! Patrick named him "Tux" after the Linux penguin mascot and we gave him a new home in a nice 2.5 gallon globe tank. Tux refused to eat flake food, preferring feeder fish instead. He outgrew his tank, but expired just as we were looking for something a little larger for him.

We haven't had an active aquarium for about 2 years, but have a 10 gallon ready for use. Our next door neighbors raise tropicals and are excited at the prospect of helping us start ours. I'm looking forward to it! smile.gif

I bought my first aquarium at age13 with money that I saved from doing a paper round!

I had a tropical fish tank for 20 years until a couple of years ago, when we moved house and decided there was nowhere safe to put the tank from reach from my children. We did keep the tank in the hallway until the last of the fish passed away naturally, but made an adult decision not to replace them.

In the time that we kept fish, we found them really relaxing to watch, and everybody that came round used to like looking at them too.

Maybe now the kids are a little bit older, we may get some more, I really did enjoy keeping them.
