We had gold fish bowls going up then I Bought in yard sale a 5 gallon one for my oldest kept t till I received a 150 gallon tank for the cost of carrying it out.
The Big tank is a sweet set up it has the large particle filter and a ultraviolet light for bacteria. I add salt at every water change and I find it keep the stink down and a very balanced tank. I drain 4to 6 inch of water once a month and top up. Some time twice in hot muggy summer days.
I vacuum the bottom it take a few minutes when draining the tank.
I have 8 cichilids 2 bottom feeders(8 an 10 inch long) an Oscar (14 inch or so) a blue cray fish and 2 tinfoil fish. I would like to sell the two bottom feeders as they cause more issues then the save and get some smaller ones. They rip plants up houses move rocks they are just rough little fellows.
I would like to see more of the tinfoil fish as well they cluster and dart about nice to look at.
Hard part is all fish must be on the aggressive side of life. I would never go back to a small tank now they were much more work.
Salt water NO THANKS the mess and fuss drove me nuts when I looked after a friend tank. Tesing the water add this add that it was painstaking for me and the salt seemed to leap out of the tank though I have no Idea why. Now it was a small tank and I have thought again maybe if you buy the right equipment the balance of salts and filtration would be come much easier and less messy.
