We have a chihuahua named Molly after the Unsinkable Molly Brown.
We used to have a mixed breed dog named Spike. We had to put him to sleep when I was in my sophomore year of high school. It was so sad because I had grown up with him. We were both sixteen.
I had a rabbit named Sugar at one time. We gave her to my aunt because she got really big and my aunt lives out in the country. Her dog scared my rabbit to death.
When I was younger I had four fish. Two Chinese Goldfish: Romeo and Juliet; Two Freshwater fungi eating fishies that looked like miniature catfish: Jack and Jill. Of course, Jack was stupid and got himself stuck int he miniature castle window and my mom had to pull him out. The poor thing lost almost all his scales and died pretty shortly afterwards.
Cute pet names listed here. We have a cat named 'Yeti,' which means abominable snowman. He is gray, brown, and a little bit of black and all four of his paws are white, so that is how he got his name.
I use to have an old english sheepdog growing up who's name was 'Woody.' I loved that dog like he was my best friend.
My first dog was a beautiful white samoyed named Beavis. Of course, I was a Butthead for purchasing Beavis as he was a very difficult one to train. However, after a lot of work he was a very good dog and very well behaved. My second dog was a soft coated wheaten terrier named Rommel. That dog without a doubt has to be the worst guard dog in the world. Never met someone he did not instantly try to jump into their arms and give them a "kiss". This can be a bit disconcerting for children, as he weights about 40lbs! He really does think he is a lapdog... Amazing!

O-ber-on, O-ber-on!
We bought a mastiff, rottweiler mix about three months ago. He was a tiny little thing at the time.
Now, at 5 months old, he is bigger than our adult Labrador, Buffy was.
He is named Oberon, who was king of the fairies in A Midsummer Nights Dream. Oberon is also the king of Amber in the Chronicles of Amber.
I like the name, so that is the dog's name.
I always just end up calling our pets by what they are. The dove is called 'bird' the hamster is called 'rodent', the two cats are called 'white one' and 'black one' It seems like a good method to me, and it avoids the hassle of trying to come up with a name for the animal.
My dog is a toy poodle, it was my grandmas, but then she couldnt take care of him anymore. She traveled too much. And he is a baby who always needs attention.
Coquito- grandma named him after a Pureto Rican Rum drink. But I just tell little kids it means small frog(Im not lying, it means both)
My Siamese is officially known as Hephaistion Tybalt Yoshitsune von Seydlitz. The first is related to my being an Alexander, the second reflects the repeated jokes in "Romeo and Juliet" about Tybalt as "Prince of Cats", the third is a Samurai hero of the Gempei war - a very dashing and romantic character - and the last was one of Frederick the Great's cavalry commanders, whom the kitten used to imitate in his now-distant youth. He also answers to "Pookie Paws".
My grey tabby goes by the label of Libuse Imogen Tamara Suriyothai. The first, which should have a bit of fancy Czech punctuation which I don't know how to type, was the priestess/princess who founded Prague (the cat was born in the Czech Republic), the second is another Shakespearean name, this time from "Cymbeline", Tamara was a medieval Georgian princess who used to throw her lovers over the castle walls when she'd had enough of them, and the last was a Thai heroine who saved the king on the battlefield by riding in front of him and intercepting a killing blow which was aimed at him. She is also known as "The Semtex Pixie", Semtex being a particularly destructive local explosive.
A lot of names, but nine lives, you know....

I have a golden lab, he is named Orion after the constellation of course. The day I went to get him it was early evening around 5pm local. Not knowing what I was getting into (all the papers needing to be signed, puppy food, leash, infant gates, ect ect) we started out the door of the pet shop and proceeded to my Jeep. I had the top down and it was about ten minutes till eight. The sun had set and we still had a good thirty minute drive home through the back roads to our home. Scared he would jump out I had tied the anxious fella's leash to my leg and had him sitting in my lap. When all of a sudden he reached up and licked the bottom of my chin causing me to look up, and that was the constellation I saw so it just hit me. That would be his name.
Offtopic but, Speaking of Orion its time for for our morning walk! Oh and for those who don't know the stars well here you go! https://www.skyscript.co.uk/orion.html |
