Rage on the Right: Christian Militia Raided in Michigan; Tennessee Skinhead Pleads Guilty to Obama Assassination Plot
The Justice Department has charged nine members of a Michigan-based Christian militia group in connection with an alleged plot to spark a war against the federal government. Meanwhile, a white power skinhead from Tennessee has pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to carry out a killing spree targeting African Americans, including then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. We speak to Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Ref. Source 1
I cannot understand how a group can attach "Christian" to their group and then think about assassination on a Senator (then) and running candidate and other innocent people for the sake of their own minuscule ideals.

It has been going on a very very long time. If they had the media back then like we do now, wouldn't the announcement of the upcoming crusades read pretty similarly? And that was a pretty big "Christian" organization!

What I wonder about these groups and individuals, such as the one who crashed into the IRS building, why aren't they referred to as "terrorists"? They do the same if not worst that the stereotypical terrorists because they are already in the US and possibly look like the 'typical' citizenry.

The Christian Militias are terrorists when they actually carry out their agendas against a government. However, much of the time they are just counter culture groups that live in what is basically a commune and preach their version of the Bible and suspicion of the government. David Koresh ran what was basically a Christian Militia in Waco. These guys would be considered to be a Militia as they were a standing armed group. The constitution of the US pretty much allows for Militias as a counter to a tyrannical government. We, however, would call them a terrorist organization once they actually attacked a government that was still backed by the people. Basically, I think we give militias the benefit of the doubt in the US until they do something wrong. Also, I believe since they are preaching the Bible (however incorrectly), the media gives them a semi pass by not calling them terrorist initially but rather a militia as long as they stay quiet.
I also think that terrorists are actually intending to get some change as a result of their exploits (most terrorist would not have a death wish...that is something relatively new). The instance of the guy that ran his plane into the IRS building just wanted revenge on the IRS.
Ted Kazinski was a terrorist. He wasn't a Christian Terrorist, but rather a Eco Terrorist (least that is how I viewed him). Green Peace is a terroristic organization with some of their members tactics, but we would call them that. PETA is another terroristic organization with some of their members tactics. The IRA is actually a terror group and are sometimes called that depending on your beliefs. Edited: Vincenzo on 31st Mar, 2010 - 1:05am

Good points. It leads me to see that these fanatical leaders merely use the religious element to enforce their rule through the psychology of belief. Once you get something close to their heart like religion you can pretty much get people to do anything for instance suicide bombers.
Concerning Barak Obama they may use his race or the current economy as reasons, but from history you can see that these people use literally anything as a reason.

Most of these militias don't do anything. They preach their version of the Bible, mistrust of the government and how to protect themselves against a tyrannical government (arms). In general, they are much like a nest of hornets. They bother no one until someone pokes the nest:
Jim Jones in Guyana
David Koresh in Waco
However, there are militias we might think are a good thing. The Minutemen Project is a militia that voluntarily guards the border between the US and Mexico. There are several militias based on border protection.
Additionaly, the Nauvoo Legion was created by Joesph Smith Jr to help protect the city of Nauvoo Illinois. Edited: Vincenzo on 31st Mar, 2010 - 2:31am

Nice one on the Joseph bit.
Then we must ask, who poked the Michigan-based Christian militia group? As much as the media likes to promote acceptance of a African American President there are a lot in the US that still cannot accept it even if they do not say so vocally or by action as the Skinheads.
