Japan's players booed after 3-0 loss

Japan's players were booed off the pitch Wednesday after losing 3-0 to Serbia in a World Cup warm-up match.

Dragan Mrda's two first-half goals gave Serbia a comfortable lead and midfielder Nemanja Tomic put the game out of Japan's reach on the hour mark with a free kick from 30 meters.

Japan coach Takeshi Okada and Serbia counterpart Radomir Antic used the game to give younger players a chance to make their case for World Cup selection.
But Japan's fans were not pleased with their team's efforts, jeering the players as they walked off at the final whistle. (AP) Source: cleanup

The Japanese women's soccer team won the World Cup after defeating the United States on penalty kicks Sunday night, rallying from a pair of one-goal deficits to capture its first-ever world title.

The Japanese had been dubbed 'sentimental favorites," their strong play and surprising run having buoyed their countrymen back home still trying to recover from a massive earthquake this spring that triggered a devastating tsunami and a nuclear crisis.

Japan shocked host Germany by a 1-0 score in the quarterfinals, then defeated a potent Sweden team 3-1 to advance to the finals.

The World Cup win marks the first time the Japanese national women's team has beaten the U.S. The teams have met 25 previous times. Ref. CNN

Soccer: Triumph girls lend their support to Nadeshiko Japan

Triumph International Japan's image girls for 2012, Ayana Kaneda, 21, and model Misaki Tanabe, 21, showed the company's support this week for Nadeshiko Japan, the women's soccer World Cup-winning team, by sporting some colorful lingerie. The bra's color is blue (same as the team's jerseys) and pink (for the fringed pink carnation or "nadeshiko"). The shorts resemble soccer shorts. Kaneda and Tanabe said they plan to wear these bras at the London Olympics next year to encourage Nadeshiko Japan. (Japan Today)
