What is your strategy for confronting the creature Lizard, Monitor in Dungeons & Dragons?

These big lizards are mutch more dangerous than their little cousins. Being that they travel alone most low level parties will not die fighting this. If you are alone or have a weak party though one of these could easily take out at least one member before being slain. Tactics I would use against it is staying away from melee battle with it. If you can whittle it down before it get in melee range your in good shape. Otherwise a stronger character can try grappling it.

Interesting that they have the climb skill. I don't think the ones in real life have this skill.
