What is your strategy for confronting the creature Rat - Rats in Dungeons & Dragons?

Big damage? by my calculations they do -1 damage. I don't know how that equates into damage, I suppose they claim 1 is the lowest number. I don't know why they don't just say 1d1 damage or something. The thing I noticed is they are very, very sneaky, also they have pretty good AC. I think my level of concern when fighting these would be connected to how many I am fighting. If I was fighting 10 with my buddies, no problem. If I was fighting 100 by myself, big difference.
