The Church* makes its vast genealogy archive available to all who are interested at https://www.familysearch.org and at 4,000 family history centers worldwide. Latter-day Saints, as a matter of faith, gather information about their ancestors. This article profiles some of the specific family history resources available through the site.

According to Dictionary.com the word GENEALOGY can be defined as: 1. A record or table of the descent of a person, family, or group from an ancestor or ancestors; a family tree. 2. Direct descent from an ancestor; lineage or pedigree. 3. The study or investigation of ancestry and family histories.
One thing I would like to mention about LDS Genealogy Libraries / Family History Centers is that no one tries to 'preach' at you there. The place is kept just like a regular book library... you enter, it is quiet, you log in and begin searching... when you are finished, you log out, wave good-bye and that is it! I say this in case anyone who was not LDS wanted to visit a Church related building, but felt they did not want to be approached about religion.

Every Wednesday Shirlene Jolley finds herself in the same place: hunkered over books, records, or microfilms at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Jolley is one of an estimated 1,900 patrons who visit the Family History Library every day. They come to take advantage of the computer programs and the hundreds of thousands of records available to the public free of charge.
