I was thinking along the lines of what defines a living thing. I found some information here Source 7 .

Also were did life start, I found some information here Source 4 .

I was just thinking I am always trying to define death and figure out things about the ending of life. I have given little thought as to the beginning or trying to define what it is to be alive.

The purpose is important too but I found this interesting.

Rather off topic, but...
I was trying to find the right place to post it in last night but couldn't figure out in my head what I was actually trying to get too. I apologize, can it be moved or if not deleted. I could repost in the right channel, sorry a bit out of it.

I was wondering if this is true what do plants get rid of in this way. I do not know if trees actually have a waste product, but they are alive.

In the simplest term I would say life is movement. Think about about it - anything with life moves. I do see the earth itself as living. I will also say life has the capability of affecting something else by choice and that choice comes from the ability to move.

That makes sense I can see that. So something that is alive does not have to be something with a brain or a heartbeat, interesting.

Well what makes you function and move is not what you see on the outside but the microscopic cells, billions of them, that make you what you are right now. Therefore when you say "your brain" you cannot really reference a clump of matter but the millions of brain cells that make it up and then you can ask the question - do each of those brain cells have a 'brain'? Is a house living or the people within the house that makes it seem to come alive?
