Technology? - Page 2

I grew up in a home where technology was everywhere.  Technology is my life pretty much.  I'm always using computers, tv's, vehicles even.  At school we use calculators and stuff.  Technology even effects the way we think, i don't know where i would be without it.

I'd be sitting in a pile of dirt, where my parents house should be and twidling my thumbs.

Technology? Gaming Video & Issues Computer

Just a passing thought...

having almost 30yrs experience as a Technologist I am qualified to say...

"Your Technology is either 'Out of date', 'Been Replaced', 'Too Slow', 'Lost','Been Stolen' or 'Is Broken'...

Just remember,,,,    'The Wheels of Progress, we tend to spend more time under them then on them!'

and 'Cutting Edge' technology is a 'Bloody Place'...

Depends upon what you mean by technology.  If just computers then:

No microwaves, they have computer chips in them
No elevators, they have computer chips in them
No TVs, VCRs, DVD players
Newer cars all have computer chips controlling various functions
No air traffic
No air traffic control
No modern cruise ships
NO PDAs
Health care would really suffer!
No internet forums  :(

Of course, we could go back to the older versions of some of these products that didn't include computerized enhancements.

If you mean technology in general this would include:

No electricity
No running water
No combustible engines
No air planes
No water treatment facilities sewer treatment facilities rely on technology - computers add various levels of chemicals as needed, including flouride.
No telephones
No Cell Phones
No refrigerators or freezers

Msslm - you would be reading those books by candlelight! wink.gif

I am sure there are many more, and I have no desire to return to such "simpler" times.

Can't argue with you there...
But,,,   I just can't do without my SUV...   No really...
Most water treatment is marginal and usually fudged records to keep on line...
You do realize that the first Light Bulb put into commercial service ...
was still burning,,, at least a few years ago it was, I don't know now...
You can't get home from the supermarket with a lightbulb....
Technology is a trap of man...
Yes... Yes... Yes... Life would be tough without the wheel.,.,.
Engineering has a couple of fundamental rules...
1. Design a widget to replace the engineer...(managers rarely like us)
2. Design it to fail
3. Design it cheaper...

If you could find a 56 Chevy in a junk yard... take a battery with you...
if the headlights are still intact... hook up the battery, reach in and turn on the
head lights....   they will come on...
You get 8- 10 years max out of these switches today ...
buy a new car!!! they will say ... even the Japanese will start designing products to fail...   Everything is too old.... can't get parts,,,   or too expensive...
a transmission for your old rear wheel drive car could be rebuilt and installed
by the owner for under $300.00 now they have to pull the front end and
body off the car to replace the transmission...   1000.00 - 1200.00 for a cheap one...
if they don't fail, they don't sell new ones...

All of this does not make you wrong...  Just my thoughts...
and thank you for reminding me how good we have it now...
